How to get a birthday cake in The Sims 4
You cook it. Click the fridge or the stove with a teen or older Sim, choose Cook and pick a cake, such as Chocolate Cake. Click the finished cake and choose Add Birthday Candles. The birthday Sim then chooses Blow Out Candles or Make A Wish to age up. You cannot buy a ready birthday cake in Buy Mode.

- Select a teen, young adult, adult or elder Sim.
- Click the fridge or the stove and choose Cook.
- Pick a cake. Chocolate Cake and White Cake need Cooking level 1. Strawberry Cake needs level 4 and Blue Confetti Cake needs level 6.
- Wait until the Sim puts the cake down. Click the cake and choose Add Birthday Candles (10 Simoleons).
- Select the birthday Sim, click the cake and choose Blow Out Candles or Make A Wish.
- For a toddler or an infant, select an older Sim and choose Help Blow Out Candles, then pick the young Sim.
Throw a birthday party
Click the phone and choose Plan Social Event. Select Birthday Party, pick a time and invite guests. Put the cake on a table and add the candles before the party starts. A Sim who ages up with no cake or party gets a sad moodlet.
Which cake to cook
Any cake can take birthday candles. Higher Cooking skill unlocks more cakes, such as [Sim's Name] Signature Cake at level 5. With Gourmet Cooking, a Sim can also make White & Black Cake at level 1.
Common problems
Add Birthday Candles is missing
Someone already ate a slice. Candles only go on a whole cake. Cook a new one and add candles at once.
No cakes show in the Cook menu
Check that the Sim is a teen or older. Then check the Cooking skill level. Chocolate Cake and White Cake are available from level 1.
Toddler or infant is not on the Help Blow Out Candles list
Select an older Sim to do it. Toddlers and infants cannot blow out candles on their own.
