How to download The Sims 4
The Sims 4 base game is free. On a PC or laptop, open the EA app, sign in, search for The Sims 4 and click Download. You can also get it free on Steam or Epic Games. On a Mac, use the EA app. On PlayStation or Xbox, find The Sims 4 in the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.

Download The Sims 4 on Steam
Search for The Sims 4 in the Steam store and click Play Game. The base game is free there too.
The Steam version still needs an EA account linked to Steam, and the EA app must be installed. Steam installs the game, but the EA app runs in the background when you play.
Download on a laptop
A Windows laptop or MacBook uses the same steps as a desktop. Check the system requirements first. EA lists a 64-bit Windows 10 PC, 4 GB of RAM and an Intel Core i3-3220 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 as the minimum. On Mac, the EA app needs macOS Catalina or later.
What is free and what costs money
The base game is free on all supported platforms. Expansion, Game and Stuff Packs cost extra. EA Play members get The Sims 4 EA Play Edition, which adds the Get to Work Expansion Pack. EA Play Pro adds Get to Work and Kids Room Stuff.
Common problems
The download is stuck at a percentage or on "Waiting for download"
Clear the EA app cache. On Windows, select the three dashes in the top-left corner, then Help > App recovery > Clear cache. On Mac, select Help at the top of the screen, then App Recovery > Clear cache.
The EA app does not open on my Mac
The EA app needs macOS Catalina or later. Update macOS, then install the EA app again.
Steam asks me to sign in to an EA account
This is normal. The Steam version needs an EA account linked to your Steam account, and the EA app. Sign in or make a free EA account, then start the game again.
The console download finished but the game does not start
Install it by hand from Download History (Xbox) or Notifications > Downloads (PlayStation). If the install freezes or fails, delete the partly installed files, download the game again, then restart your console.
