How to publish a book in The Sims 4
Click the computer and choose Write, then Write Genre Book. When the book is finished, click the mailbox. Choose Self-Publish (Writing skill level 2) or Sell to Publisher (level 5). At level 9 you can also Submit to Literary Digest. Published books pay daily royalties. This is base game.

- Click a computer your Sim owns and choose Write.
- Choose Write Genre Book and pick a genre. Choose Practice Writing instead if your Sim needs more skill first.
- Let your Sim finish the book. A higher Writing skill gives a higher-quality book.

- Select the book from the list. Your Sim now earns royalties every day.
- At Writing level 9, use Submit to Literary Digest for your best book.
Writing levels and genres
Level 1 unlocks Children's Books. Level 3 adds Short Stories, level 4 Poems and Romance Books, level 5 Non-Fiction, level 6 Screenplays, level 7 Fantasy, level 8 Science Fiction, level 9 Mystery and level 10 Biography.
Some genres need a mood. Sad Books need the Sad mood, Romance Books need Flirty, Motivational Books need Confident, Playful Books need Playful and Workout Guides need Energized. Horror Books at level 7 need the Life & Death expansion pack.
Royalties
EA Help says published books pay daily royalties, and a higher Writing skill earns more. Snooty Sims reports that royalties arrive at 10 AM each day for about 20 days per book.
There is no limit to how many books you can publish. Genres that unlock later usually pay more. Sell to Publisher pays more than Self-Publish. The Literary Digest pays the most but takes only one book a week.
Common problems
Sell to Publisher is not in the mailbox menu
Your Sim needs Writing level 5. Until then, use Self-Publish, which unlocks at level 2.
The mailbox shows no publish options at all
Your Sim needs Writing level 2 and at least one finished book. A book that is still in progress cannot be published.
A genre is grayed out on the computer
Mood genres need the right mood, for example Flirty for Romance Books. Other genres need a higher Writing level.
Submit to Literary Digest does not work again
The Literary Digest takes one book a week. Use Sell to Publisher for your other books.
