Rules for upper floors
Build upper rooms on top of the walls or floor below. The game may refuse a room that does not touch the level under it.
Stairs need a floor on the level above. If there is no floor up there, the stairs can't go in.
Each floor has three wall heights. The height decides which doors and windows fit.
Common problems
Page Up does nothing
On a Mac or laptop, use Fn + Up Arrow. If the up arrow at the top right is grey, there is no floor above yet.
Stairs won't place
Build a floor on the level above first. Then place the stairs from the lower floor and drag them to fit.
Sims won't go upstairs
Check that the top of the stairs opens onto a floor tile and is not blocked by a wall or object.
The roof covers the new floor
Delete the roof with the sledgehammer (K) before you build up, then add a new roof at the end.
