How to buy groceries in The Sims 4

In the base game you do not buy groceries. The fridge is always stocked, and the Sim pays for each meal when they cook from it. With Cottage Living, click the phone or fridge, choose Order a Delivery, then Grocery Delivery. You can also buy ingredients at the Grocery Market Stall in Finchwick.

Passos

Base game: click the fridge and choose a meal to cook. The game takes the ingredient cost from household funds.
Cottage Living: click your Sim's phone, or the fridge, and choose Order a Delivery.
Choose Grocery Delivery and pick the items you want.
When the delivery bag arrives, click it and unload it. Items go into the fridge or the Sim's inventory, based on whether they need cold storage.
Or travel to Finchwick in Henford-on-Bagley and buy items at the Grocery Market Stall. New stock arrives every day.

How the base game fridge works

Every fridge is fully stocked. Sims pay when they cook a new meal, and you choose one, four or eight servings.

If the Sim has at least one matching ingredient in their inventory, the meal costs less and has better quality. With Home Chef Hustle Stuff, a prepared ingredient in the fridge does the same.

When you must have ingredients

Cottage Living adds the Simple Living lot challenge. On that lot, Sims need fresh ingredients for every meal, so grocery delivery and the market stall matter.

To cook or craft without ingredients, type testingcheats true, then crafting.ingredients_required_toggle. Type the toggle again to turn requirements back on.

Common problems

There is no Buy Groceries option on the fridge

That is normal in the base game. The fridge has unlimited food and charges per meal. Grocery Delivery needs Cottage Living.

My Sim can't cook on a Simple Living lot

Order Grocery Delivery or buy at the market stall to get the ingredients. Or use crafting.ingredients_required_toggle after testingcheats true.

The delivered groceries are not in the fridge

The bag lands on a nearby surface. Click it and unload it to move the items into the fridge or inventory.
