The Sims Castaway

Two Sims games have the name. The Sims 2: Castaway is a console and handheld game from October 2007. The Sims Castaway Stories is a PC and Mac game from January 2008. In both, a ship sinks, and your Sims must live on a wild island until they escape.

Wikipedia calls The Sims 2: Castaway the console equivalent of Castaway Stories. They share the idea, but they are different games with different islands. This guide covers both.

We opened Wikipedia, the ESRB pages, four reviews, and the store pages on November 4, 2026. The facts below come from these pages. We did not play the games for this post.

In Japan, the DS version came out in January 2008 with the name “The Sims 2: Survival”. The mobile phone version came in 2008.

A storm wrecks the ship of your Sim and the crew. Your Sim wakes up on First Beach, on Shipwreck Island. The goal is to survive, find the lost crew, and escape.

The islands

• Shipwreck Island, where you start.
• Airplane Island. Build a raft to get there.
• Volcano Island. Build a canoe to get there.
• Crystal Island, an optional secret island. It rises from the sea after you repair the forge of the llama people.

Each island has 3 to 4 regions. Two secret areas are the Hidden Lagoon and the Secret Pirate’s Cove.

Needs and building

The game has eight needs: bladder, comfort, energy, environment, fun, hunger, hygiene, and social. They unlock one at a time. There is no money. You build everything from materials, such as wood. You find building plans, or you get them as rewards.

Chimps and the tribe

You can train the chimps on the islands to collect food and materials. When you find the other castaways, you build a good relationship with them. They then form a tribe, and you give each one a job.

There are two ways to escape, Wikipedia says:

1. Build a catamaran on the last beach of Volcano Island, and sail away.
2. Find the radio parts on Airplane Island. Climb to the top of the volcano, and send an SOS.

Both ways need the earlier islands first: the raft to Airplane Island, and the canoe to Volcano Island.

Castaway Stories is a PC game in The Sims Stories line. Those games use a changed engine for weaker computers, such as laptops. They need no separate graphics card. EA called it an “easy-to-play, laptop-friendly version of The Sims.”

Shipwrecked and Single: the story

The singles cruise ship Solomon Queen sinks, and the crate of your Sim washes up on the beach. You play David Bennett, Jessica Knight, or a Sim that you make. The story has 24 chapters. The two earlier Stories games had two stories of 12 chapters each. You explore the island, build a shelter, and learn to find food.

Wanmami Island: free play

The classic mode has no story. You make your own Sims and live on the island as you like.

Jobs, time, and money

Materials take the place of Simoleons. The jobs are Gatherer, Hunter, and Crafter. The game shows the time as eight orbs, not as a clock.

Animals and the island people

Mod The Sims lists orangutans, which never age or breed, and hyenas, which come out at night. Your Sims can make friends with a hyena and move it in. Two native households are Manave and Heimata. Felicity Island is another place in the game.

Yes, with a limit. In the story, Shipwrecked and Single, the cheats are off until you finish all 24 chapters. In Wanmami Island, the cheats work at any time, Mod The Sims says.

We did not find the cheats of The Sims 2: Castaway on a page that loaded. For the cheats of the main PC game of the same years, read Cheats de Sims 2.

Only from an old disc or an old download. We found no Castaway game on a current store.

Castaway Stories on PC and Mac

GOG does not sell it. It has only a Dreamlist page, where 753 players voted for it. We found no Steam page. Aspyr sold a Mac version on the Mac App Store from December 2015. Aspyr took it down on June 17, 2019, because macOS Catalina stopped 32-bit apps.

The 2025 Legacy Collections

On January 31, 2025, EA re-released The Sims and The Sims 2 as Legacy Collections, on PC. The Sims Legacy Collection has The Sims and 7 expansions. Neither collection lists a Stories game or Castaway.

The Sims 2: Castaway on consoles

We found no version for a current console. Nintendo Life wrote in January 2025 that a console re-release is “off the cards for now, it seems.” A fan petition from January 2025 asks for a PS5 version.

The closest is The Sims 4 with the Island Living expansion pack. It has a tropical world, Sulani, with beaches, a volcano, and an ocean that your Sims swim in. It is not a survival game. Your Sims have money, jobs, and houses. Read our guide to Island Living.

LifeSim is our game. It is free, with no ads, no subscription, and nothing to buy. It plays in a web browser at play.lifesim.com and in an iPhone app. It runs on a laptop, like the Stories games did. You live one life in a real city, on a 3D map of Earth.

LifeSim fits the part of Castaway that is about people. The people are AI characters with their own lives. You talk to them in your own words, and they remember you.

LifeSim does not fit in other ways. It is not a survival game. It has no crafting, no chimps, no tribe, and no shipwreck. It cannot read a Castaway save. You can bring your Sim with screenshots: bring a Sim from a Sims spin-off.

Is The Sims Castaway on PC?

The Sims Castaway Stories is on PC and Mac, from 2008. The Sims 2: Castaway is on PS2, Wii, PSP, DS, and old mobile phones only.

Which is better, Castaway on Wii or on PS2?

The Wii version has the higher Metacritic score: 73, against 71 for the PS2.

Is The Sims Castaway Stories free?

No. It was a paid game. We found no free or official download today.

Does The Sims 2: Castaway have money?

No. You build everything from materials that you gather.

Where do you find the other castaways?

They are on the islands. As you explore new islands and regions, you find them. With a good relationship, they join your tribe.

Is Castaway Stories on Steam?

We found no Steam page for it.
