How to get rid of money in The Sims 4

Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C (Cmd + Shift + C on Mac, L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 on PlayStation, LB + LT + RB + RT on Xbox). Type testingcheats true, then money and the amount you want to keep, like money 0. The household funds change to exactly that number.

PC and Mac

Load the household in Live Mode.
Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac.
Type testingcheats true and press Enter.
Type money and the funds you want, for example money 5000. Press Enter.
Check the household funds. The game adds or takes away the difference.

PlayStation and Xbox

Press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 together on PlayStation, or LB + LT + RB + RT together on Xbox.
Type testingcheats true and confirm.
Type money and the funds you want, then confirm.
Note: some cheats turn off Trophies and Achievements for the current save on console.

Ways to spend money without cheats

Buy expensive objects in Buy Mode and keep them, store them out of sight or destroy them. Selling an item back gives some money back, so do not delete it if you want the funds gone.

Put inventory items such as a computer in the world or give them to another Sim. With Romantic Garden Stuff, a Sim can toss money into the Wishing Well, but it can have bad results.

How the money cheat works

money sets the funds to the number you type. Type only digits: no §, commas or decimals. Household funds top out at §9,999,999.

EA's cheat list describes money as adding funds, but the game sets the total to the number. Use a number lower than your current funds to remove money.

Common problems

The money cheat does nothing

Type testingcheats true first. The money cheat only works with testing cheats on.

My Sims got more money instead of less

money sets the total, so type the amount you want to keep, not the amount to remove. To empty the funds, type money 0.

The cheat says the number is invalid

Type digits only, for example money 2000. Leave out the § sign, commas and decimal points.
