How to reset a Sim in The Sims 4

Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C (Cmd + Shift + C on Mac, L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 on PlayStation, LB + LT + RB + RT on Xbox). Type resetsim Firstname Lastname and press Enter. Or type testingcheats true, Shift-click the Sim and choose Reset Object. The Sim stops and reappears.

Steps

PC and Mac

Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac to open the cheat console.
Type resetsim and the Sim's first and last name, for example resetsim Bella Goth. Press Enter.
Or: type testingcheats true and press Enter.
Hold Shift and click the stuck Sim.
Choose Reset Object.

PlayStation and Xbox

Press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 together on PlayStation, or LB + LT + RB + RT together on Xbox, to open the cheat console.
Type resetsim and the Sim's first and last name, then confirm.
Or: type testingcheats true, then use the Shift-click button combo on the Sim (X + Circle on PlayStation, A + B on Xbox, per GGRecon) and choose Reset Object.
Note: some cheats turn off Trophies and Achievements for the current save on console.

What a reset does

The Sim stops what they are doing and returns to a playable state. They do not go back to their home lot, and their needs stay the same.

A reset also cancels the Sim's wishes and moodlets. Queue any actions you wanted again afterwards.

When to use it

Use a reset when a Sim is frozen, stuck in place, stuck in an animation or will not take new actions. You can reset any Sim, not only the ones you control.

resetsim does not need testingcheats true. The Shift-click Reset Object option does.

Common problems

The console says Sim not found

Check the spelling of the first and last name and leave one space between them. Use the Shift-click Reset Object method if the name still fails.

resetsim * did not reset everyone

EA says the all-Sims version does not always work. Reset each stuck Sim by name or with Shift-click.

Shift-click shows no Reset Object option

Type testingcheats true first. The debug options only appear with testing cheats on.
