Food and going out in Ankara
Ankara has famous local dishes and busy evening streets. In the morning, people eat Ankara simidi, a thin and crispy sesame bread ring dipped in warm molasses. For dinner, you can talk about eating Ankara tava, which is slow-cooked lamb over orzo pilaf, or oak charcoal Ankara döneri. Late at night, locals visit Aspava restaurants, where one kebab wrap comes with free fries, salad, cacık, and warm semolina helva.
In LifeSim, you can search for real dining streets and plan an outing with friends. Walk to Sakarya Caddesi in Kızılay for fish stands and beer gardens, or visit 7. Cadde in Bahçelievler for dessert cafes. You can also meet people at the pubs and coffee shops along Tunalı Hilmi Caddesi and Bestekar Sokak in Kavaklıdere.
Famous places to search for in Ankara
You can use the place search to find Ankara's famous landmarks on the 3D map. Search for Anıtkabir in Çankaya, the monumental hilltop mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and walk through its park. In Ulus, go up to Ankara Kalesi and the nearby Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, or walk through the restored Ottoman houses of Hamamönü.
For an evening walk with friends, search for Kuğulu Park in Kavaklıdere to sit by the swans and cafes. You can also visit the Kocatepe Mosque, look up at the Atakule tower, or take a group outing to Lake Eymir on the ODTÜ land. Buildings show from the outside only, and you talk with your friends on the streets and in the parks.
A sample life: a student in Bahçelievler
Emre, 21, starts life as an engineering student at Gazi University living in Bahçelievler. He sets two life goals: make close friends in his department and visit every historic street in Ulus. On his first morning, he checks his daily to-do list and searches for a cafe on 7. Cadde.
In week one, a classmate texts him to meet in front of the Dost Kitabevi sign in Kızılay. They walk to Güvenpark and talk in their own words about their courses. In week two, a house party happening appears on the map in Kavaklıdere, and Emre goes there. Each day ends with a recap, and his friends remember their chats.
Money and the cost of living in Ankara
In real life, people in Ankara pay for daily needs with the Turkish lira. You use contactless bank cards in most shops and restaurants, and cash at street stalls or in minibuses. Commuters tap an AnkaraKart or Başkent Kart on buses and trains. Sellers often benchmark property and big items against the US dollar, the euro, or gold.
Living costs vary across the city. Southern and western neighborhoods in Çankaya and Gölbaşı, like Kavaklıdere, Çukurambar, Oran, and Çayyolu, are the most expensive. Districts like Yenimahalle, Batıkent, and Etimesgut sit in the middle. Areas in the north, east, and outer west, including Mamak, Sincan, Altındağ, and Keçiören, are cheaper.
LifeSim does not charge rent or bills, and it does not pay a salary. Instead, your cash changes directly through the activities you do and the chats you have.
Work and universities in Ankara
Ankara is a city of government ministries, embassies, and universities. Thousands of people work as civil servants, medical professionals at Hacettepe University, or academics at Ankara University, Bilkent, and ODTÜ. The city is also the center of Turkish defense and aerospace engineering, with major employers like ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, ROKETSAN, HAVELSAN, and STM, plus workshops in the OSTİM industrial zone.
To take one of these roles in LifeSim, write it into your character box when you start. There is no career ladder, promotion system, or work mini-game. Your job sets your identity, and your coworkers and neighbors react to it when you talk.
