AI roleplay

AI roleplay means you play a character and an AI plays everyone else. Here are the main kinds, how they differ, and where LifeSim fits.

AI roleplay is when you play a character and an AI plays everyone else. You type what your character says or does, and the AI writes back.

It works like acting out a scene with a friend, but your friend is a language model. You can be a detective, a new kid in town, or just yourself on a normal day. The AI answers your exact words, so no two scenes are the same.

Most AI roleplay happens in text. You read and type. Some apps add pictures or a map, but the talk is still the main part.

There are three main kinds. They all let you play a role, but they give the AI a different job.

Chat apps

You talk to one AI character at a time. Character.AI is a well known one. You pick a character, and you chat. There is no map and no world around the talk.

Text adventures

The AI tells a story, and you say what your character does next. AI Dungeon is a well known one. The world lives only in the text.

Life sims with AI people

You live one life in a world full of AI people. Each person has their own day. LifeSim is this kind. You can read more in AI games.

Yes, if you want to talk to one character. That is what it is built for.

The limit is that there is no world. The character does not have a home to go to or a job to do. When you stop typing, nothing happens.

If you like the talk but want a place around it, read LifeSim vs Character AI.

Yes. AI Dungeon calls itself a free AI text adventure game. You make a story and guide every choice, in the browser or in the app.

It has tools to help the AI keep track of the story. Its help pages describe a Memory Bank that recalls past events when they matter. Story Cards add facts about a person or place when their name comes up.

Still, the world is only words. There is no map, and no one goes on with their day while you are away. Read LifeSim vs AI Dungeon for a full comparison.

They differ in four things: memory, a world, a map, and rules. Memory is what the AI keeps from past talks. A world means other people and places exist even when you are not there. A map shows you where things are. Rules are what limits the story, like money or time.

Pick a chat app if you want one long talk. Pick a text adventure if you want a story with no limits. Pick a life sim if you want people who live their own lives around you.

These apps have age limits, and some also use moderation tools. AI Dungeon says you must be at least 13, and some features are for adults only. Character.AI says it removed open-ended chat with characters for users under 18.

Rules change, so check the rules of each app before you start.

In LifeSim, the other characters live in a real city on a 3D map of Earth. Each person has a name, a job, a home, friends, and a daily routine. They follow it by the minute, on weekdays and on weekends.

You talk to them in your own words, in person or by text message. There are no dialogue menus. People also text you on their own, so your phone gets messages even when you did not start the talk. Read AI NPCs for how they work.

People remember you. They keep a journal of past events and use their recent memories when they answer. Read NPC memory for more.

It does not fit everyone. LifeSim is in English only. There is no career ladder and no house to buy. It is free, and it runs in your browser with no download.
