How to change a work outfit in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 has no menu to change a career outfit. The career picks the uniform for each level. On PC and Mac, install MC Command Center. Click the Sim, choose MC Command Center > Sim Commands > Modify Career Outfit, and change the clothes in Create a Sim. Each promotion brings a new uniform, so repeat it.

Steps

PC and Mac

Install MC Command Center (MCCC). See our MCCC guide.
Open Game Options, select Other and make sure Enable Custom Content and Mods is on. Restart the game.
In Live Mode, click the Sim who has the job.
Choose MC Command Center, then Sim Commands, then Modify Career Outfit.
Change the outfit in Create a Sim and confirm.
After each promotion, repeat these steps for the new uniform.

PlayStation and Xbox

Mods do not work on console, so MCCC is not available.
The game has no menu to edit a career outfit. The Sim wears the uniform the career sets for each level.

Why the outfit changes back

Many careers give the Sim set clothes for each career level. When the Sim gets a promotion, the game gives the new level's uniform. Your edit stays only for the current level.

Save an outfit to reuse with MCCC

Click the Sim and choose MC Command Center > MC Dresser > Outfit Commands > Save Outfit. Note the outfit number. After a promotion, use MC Dresser > Outfit Commands > Load Outfit > Load Outfit by Index and enter that number.

Common problems

The new outfit is gone after a promotion

Each career level has its own uniform. Change the outfit again after each promotion.

Modify Career Outfit is not in the menu

Check that Enable Custom Content and Mods is on in Game Options > Other. Update MCCC after each game patch.

Some uniform pieces are missing in Create a Sim

Some career clothes are locked to the job and do not show in Create a Sim. If you replace them, you may not get them back.

The Sim will not change into the work outfit

An EA Forums player fixed this by resetting the Sim. Other players say a promotion, or quitting and rejoining the career, gives the uniform back.
