How to start

  • Start with one founder Sim of any age from young adult up. A played Sim, a gallery Sim or a Wonder Child Sim is allowed.
  • Move the founder onto any empty lot in any world. You may bulldoze a house to free up a lot. Oasis Springs fits the theme but is not required.
  • The founder must quit any job. A career they already topped does not lift its restriction, but they may take that job again.
  • The challenge starts once the founder is alone on the empty lot with no job. All career restrictions apply from then on.
  • When you start, choose one 8x8 square of the lot. Until the Villain restriction is lifted, you may only build and place items inside it.

The rules

  • Each career branch (and each teen career) has its own restriction on what your Sims can do or buy.
  • When any household Sim reaches the top of a career branch, that branch's restriction is lifted for good for everyone, even if the Sim later quits.
  • Each Sim can lift only one restriction: the first career they top. A Sim who tops a teen career cannot lift an adult restriction later.
  • Always-on rules: no unfair cheats or mods, no early age-ups, no adopting, normal lifespan, and the family never moves lots.
  • Restrictions cover 20 adult branches (Tech Guru, Business, Culinary, Astronaut, Painter, Writer, Secret Agent, Entertainer, Criminal, Athlete, two branches each) and 5 teen careers (Babysitter, Fast Food, Manual Labor, Retail, Barista).
  • Examples of restrictions: only the worst item in each category (Tech Guru Start-Up); no fridges, stoves, ovens or microwaves (Chef); no showers or tubs (Journalist); no visiting community lots or other houses (Diamond Agent); household funds reset to 0 after each bill payment (Criminal Boss); build mode only on Sundays (Retail teen career).
  • Lifting the Criminal Oracle restriction also lets you use the kaching cheat once per Sim day.

How you win

You finish when every career restriction has been lifted.

Scoring

  • Score is the number of Sim days it took to lift every restriction. Lower is better, like golf.

Tips

  • Plan which Sim tops which career. Each Sim only counts once, so pick early careers that remove the most painful limits (Culinary Chef for cooking, Writer Journalist for bathing).
  • Teen careers count as a Sim's one lift. Only let a teen top a teen career if you are fine with that Sim never lifting an adult restriction.
  • The 8x8 build square is tiny. Build up with stairs instead of out, and save Villain for a Sim who can top it fast.

Questions

How do you win the Sims 4 Apocalypse Challenge?

Get Sims to the top of every career branch and teen career so that every restriction is lifted.

How is the Apocalypse Challenge scored?

By the number of Sim days it takes to lift every restriction. Fewer days is a better score.

Can one Sim lift more than one restriction in the Apocalypse Challenge?

No. Only the first career a Sim tops counts, and that includes teen careers.

Each challenge belongs to its creator. We read the rules on the creator's own page on the date shown, and wrote them again in our own words. When the two differ, the creator's page wins.
