How to start
- Start in the year 1300 by default; you may pick another start year.
- Start with one teen or young adult, or a married pair; marry and start a family quickly.
- Founders begin as peasants on the largest lot available.
- Windenburg is suggested as a stand-in for England; once settled you can't leave that world for a while.
- Use starter funds to buy the lot, then cheat money to zero.
- No careers at the start; earn money from crops, fishing, painting, woodworking and similar crafts.
- Several modern traits are banned at the start, such as Geek, Ambitious and Bro.
- Only male heirs at the start, and married daughters must move out.
The rules
- Turn aging off and age every Sim by hand on a spreadsheet timeline.
- Four Sim days equal one year.
- Life stage lengths: baby 1 day, infant 5, toddler 18, child 28, teen 28, young adult 40, adult 80, elder 80.
- Roll dice for death: the mother and baby at each birth, and every Sim before each new life stage.
- Death odds change by era; a Sim who clears every roll gets a d20 roll for extra years.
- Heirs try for a baby daily, with one rest day after a birth; side households roll to set their number of pregnancy attempts.
- The eldest son inherits; with no son the eldest daughter's husband takes over and the family name changes.
- If the main line dies out, the closest side household becomes the main household.
- Era events such as plagues and wars add extra rolls.
- Eras run from the 1300s Middle Ages through Tudor England, colonial and revolutionary America, and on to modern times.
How you win
Keep the family line alive from the starting era to the present day.
Tips
- Set up the timeline spreadsheet before you play; with aging off, the sheet is the only record of who is due to age up.
- Raise several sons, because death rolls can wipe out an heir at any stage.
- Keep side households tracked even if you rarely play them; they are the backup if the main line dies.
