How to start

  • Start a new save in a world you have not played.
  • Aging on and set to normal, including for households you are not playing.
  • Roll generation 1 on tables A to F before making the founder: A marital status, B number of children, C heir career, D career for each spouse or helper, E generation goal, F fun rule.
  • Create the founder (and any spouse or helpers the rolls call for) in CAS. You choose looks, traits and aspiration unless a roll forces random ones. You may not create the children.
  • The heir must be at least a young adult. Move into any empty lot, built or not.

The rules

  • Each new generation's rolls are made only when that generation is born, so you cannot plan ahead.
  • Table A sets the household: single, couple, second partner, or extra non-romantic helpers living in.
  • Table B sets the exact number of children: 1 to 5.
  • Heir rolls a primary career (conventional, unconventional freelance-style, or Career Hopper); spouses and helpers roll a secondary career, which can also be unemployed.
  • Sims may only earn money in the ways their rolled career allows. Family members may not feed income to each other.
  • No cheats of any kind (money, skill, relationship, needs) and no exploits. Fixing a bug is allowed if you undo any gain.
  • No early aging up; pregnancies must run the full time, so no pregnancy test for legacy Sims.
  • Aspirations are chosen, not rolled, but cannot be swapped once chosen.
  • The heir must be a child born to or adopted by the previous heir. Spares move out within 24 hours of becoming young adults.
  • Spouses and helpers you create get random traits, must live elsewhere first, and must be met in town. Their money is removed when they move in.
  • Only the young again potion may be bought: one use at first, a second unlocks when the generation 6 heir comes of age.
  • You may re-roll a career, goal or fun rule that repeats within a generation or from the last one.
  • Failing any rolled rule (child count, goal, fun rule) loses the challenge. Bugs and one-off autonomous slips are forgiven.

How you win

Complete the rolled goals of all 10 generations; the challenge ends when generation 10 is done and the generation 11 heir becomes a young adult.

Tips

  • Use a random number site (random.org) or a set of tabletop dice and write every roll down per generation; you will need to look them up for decades of Sim time.
  • When you roll a career that needs a rabbit-hole lot you must watch (Doctor, Detective, Scientist, Restaurant), avoid giving the same kind to two Sims at once; the rules let you re-roll that clash.
  • Pick aspirations that fit the rolls: for example, Big Happy Family needs at least 3 children and Public Enemy needs the Criminal career.
