How to quit a job in The Sims 4

Select the Sim with the job. Open their phone and select Business > Quit Job. If the Sim owns a computer, you can also click it and select Career > Quit Job. Confirm in the pop-up. To change careers, quit first, then pick a new job with Find a Job. This works in the base game.

Steps

Select the Sim whose job you want to quit.
Open the Sim's phone (bottom left of the screen) and select Business > Quit Job.
Or click a computer the Sim owns and select Career > Quit Job.
If the Sim has more than one job, pick the job to quit.
Confirm that the Sim leaves the job.
To start a new job, select Business > Find a Job on the phone, or Career > Find a Job on the computer.

Quit with a cheat

Open the cheat console: PC Ctrl + Shift + C, Mac Cmd + Shift + C, PlayStation L1 + L2 + R1 + R2, Xbox LB + LT + RB + RT. Type testingcheats true and press Enter.

Then type careers.remove_career career_Adult_Astronaut and press Enter. Change the career name to the one your Sim has. Type careers.add_career with no name to see the list of internal career names. On console, cheats turn off trophies and achievements for that save.

What happens after you quit

Your Sim has no job and no salary. A new job usually starts at Level 1. Your Sim can start higher if they had that career before and got promoted, or if they have a University degree that fits the new career.

Common problems

There is no Quit Job option on the phone

Make sure you selected the Sim who has the job. The option is under Business on the phone, or Career on the computer.

The cheat says the career is not found

Type the internal career name, not the name you see in the game. Type careers.add_career with no name to list them.

The cheat does nothing

Type testingcheats true first. careers.remove_career needs it.
