How to go to work in The Sims 4

1. Give your Sim a job first. Open the phone and select Business > Find a Job, or click Join a Career in the Career panel.
2. Open the Career panel (the briefcase icon at the bottom right in Live Mode) to see the work schedule.
3. When the shift starts, let your Sim leave on their own, or click Go to Work in the Career panel.
4. In a normal career, your Sim leaves the lot and comes back after the shift. You do not see what happens at work.
5. In an active career, choose to follow your Sim when the pop-up asks. The game takes you to the workplace.
6. At an active workplace, follow the Scored Career Event in the top left to see which tasks to do.
7. To set how your Sim works, click the work icon next to their portrait and pick Work Hard, Take It Easy or Socialize.

EA lists three types of work. In Careers and Part-time jobs your Sim leaves the lot and returns after the shift. This is the 'rabbit hole' type.

Professions, also called active careers, let you travel with your Sim and help them do the job. They come with Get to Work (Doctor, Detective, Scientist), Life & Death and Dream Home Decorator (Interior Decorator). The Actor career from Get Famous works with auditions and gigs instead of a fixed schedule.

Some careers from packs let your Sim work from home. About one hour before the shift, a notice asks if your Sim goes to work or works at home. At home, the Career panel lists the tasks to do.

The Freelancer career (base game) is always done at home: pick gigs with Check for Gigs in the Career panel.

Sims earn paid time off by going to work. A vacation day pays your Sim and does not lower work performance. Open the phone on a work day and choose the Take Vacation Day option for the career. The Career panel shows how many vacation days your Sim has.
