Life in Foshan

Foshan sits in Guangdong Province right next to Guangzhou. Residents start the day with dim sum breakfasts, work in manufacturing or trade, and gather in night markets after dark. You can live in a historic alley in Chancheng or near the glass towers of Nanhai.

Where to live in Foshan

Chancheng

The historic core, where grey-brick alleys and the Foshan Ancestral Temple sit beside modern malls.

Nanhai

A busy commercial hub next to Guangzhou, with glass high-rises around Qiandeng Lake.

Shunde

An industrial center famous for Cantonese food, home appliance factories, and classic water-town gardens.

Sanshui

A quieter northern district where three rivers meet, known for lotus parks and beverage plants.

Gaoming

A western district with agricultural hills, ecological parks, and lower-cost housing.

Getting around Foshan

In the real city, the Foshan Metro and the Guangzhou Metro connect the districts. People take the Guangfo Line, Foshan Metro Line 2, and Foshan Metro Line 3 to commute. Residents also use city buses, electric scooters, and shared bikes on dedicated bike lanes.

Walking is practical in older commercial areas like Zumiao and Lingnan Tiandi in Chancheng. People also walk around Qiandeng Lake in Nanhai.

In LifeSim, you do not drive cars or ride trains. You move around on the 3D map of the city. Search for a metro station, a park, or a market, and go there.

A sample life: an engineer's first month

Lin, 26, starts a life as a mechanical engineer in Shunde. Lin sets two life goals: make friends at work and visit every historic garden in the city.

In week one, Lin searches the map for Qinghui Garden in Daliang and walks there on Saturday. A coworker sends a text message and invites Lin to Huagai Road Pedestrian Street for double-skin milk pudding. Lin answers in plain English, and they talk about their jobs.

In week two, a karaoke night appears as a happening in Chancheng. Lin invites two neighbors on an outing to Lingnan Tiandi before the event. Each person keeps a journal of these moments and remembers what Lin said.

Seasons and weather in Foshan

Foshan has a humid subtropical monsoon climate. Spring runs from March to May and brings warm, humid air with light rain and overcast skies. Summer lasts from June to September and is hot and wet, with afternoon thunderstorms and occasional typhoons.

Autumn, in October and November, is sunny and dry with comfortable evenings. Winter, from December to February, is mild and mostly dry without frost or snow. The 3D map in LifeSim shows the weather as you walk the streets and meet friends outside.

Money and the cost of living in Foshan

People in Foshan use the Chinese Yuan, which locals often call kuai in Mandarin or man in Cantonese. In daily life, almost everyone pays with QR codes on WeChat Pay and Alipay. You use these mobile apps for everything from street food like double-skin milk pudding to bus rides. Shops still accept cash and bank cards, though people rarely use bills and coins.

Living costs vary across the city's five districts. Central Guicheng around Qiandeng Lake in Nanhai and historic Zumiao in Chancheng are the most expensive areas. Towns in Shunde, such as Daliang and Chencun, offer mid-range housing and dining. Outer districts like Sanshui and Gaoming have much cheaper apartments and everyday goods.

LifeSim does not charge rent or pay a regular salary. You do not pay bills or buy homes. Instead, your cash changes with the activities you do and the chats you have.
