Life in Guangzhou

Guangzhou sits on the Pearl River as the capital of Guangdong Province. Residents start the day with tea and dim sum, then work in wholesale markets or modern office towers. In the evening, people gather along the riverfront or eat at late-night street stalls.

Where to live in Guangzhou

Tianhe District

The modern commercial heart, with high skyscrapers, underground malls, and office workers.

Liwan District

The historic Xiguan area, where locals walk under covered qilou arcades past herbal shops and noodle houses.

Yuexiu District

The old civic center, home to big city parks, tree-lined streets, and wholesale clothing markets.

Haizhu District

An island south of the Pearl River with dense housing, textile markets, and the Pazhou convention center.

Panyu District

A southern suburban area that holds the Higher Education Mega Center and large family housing estates.

Money and the cost of living in Guangzhou

Guangzhou is more affordable for housing and food than Beijing, Shanghai, and neighboring Shenzhen. High housing costs exist in Zhujiang New Town in Tianhe, on Ersha Island, and in Dongshankou.

Outer districts like Panyu, Baiyun, Huadu, and Zengcheng have much lower living costs. Many people also live in older walk-up apartments or dense urban villages called chengzhongcun inside the center.

LifeSim does not charge rent or pay a salary. There are no bills or mortgages. Your cash changes with your daily activities and your chats with people.

Famous places to search on the Guangzhou map

You can use place search to find real landmarks on the 3D map. Go to the Canton Tower on the south bank of the Pearl River or the Guangzhou Opera House. You see buildings from the outside only, because the game has no interiors.

In Liwan, search for Shamian Island to walk among nineteenth-century European buildings, or visit the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall. In Yuexiu, plan an outing with friends to Yuexiu Park to see the stone Five Rams Statue. You can also meet people on Beijing Road Pedestrian Street or hike up Baiyun Mountain.

Work and industry in Guangzhou

Guangzhou is a major hub for import-export trade, wholesale commerce, auto manufacturing, electronics, logistics, and software. Big employers in the city include GAC Group, China Southern Airlines, NetEase, Procter & Gamble, and Guangzhou Port Group. Universities like Sun Yat-sen University and South China University of Technology employ many educators.

People often work as trade merchandisers, supply chain coordinators, automotive engineers, software developers, or market vendors. To have one of these jobs in LifeSim, write it into your character text at the start. The people you meet read your story and talk to you about your work.

Say you start as a 28-year-old trade merchandiser living in Liwan District. In the morning, you search for a teahouse on Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, such as Tao Tao Ju, and walk there. You talk with a neighbor in your own words over wonton noodles and cheung fun.

In the afternoon, you go to the Pazhou convention center in Haizhu District to meet a coworker. Later, a birthday drinks happening appears on the map at Party Pier along the Pearl River. You join the group, and the day ends with a recap of your moments.

A sample life: a student in Panyu

Lin, 20, starts a life at Jinan University in Panyu District. Lin sets two life goals: make close friends and visit every historic district in the city.

In week one, Lin meets a classmate near the campus, and they eat claypot rice and sweet tong sui soup. The classmate remembers Lin's goals the next day and starts a group text thread. They plan a weekend outing to Xihua Road for street snacks and bitter liangcha herbal tea.

In week two, a pickup game appears on the map in a park, and Lin joins. Each person in the cast keeps a journal of past events. Lin's life in Guangzhou grows through the memories that these friends keep.
