As a freelance job, this career has no set work days or shifts. You also earn 0 paid days off per day worked. Your Sim starts at level 1 as a Freelance Programmer with a base rate of 55 Simoleons per hour.

Instead of a weekly salary, you pick contracts from the gig list. Entry contracts like Desperate for Spreadsheet Help pay 85 Simoleons, while Encrypting Client Documents pays 150 Simoleons. Mid-range jobs like Crypto-Simming pay 1,205 Simoleons, and Product Landing Pages pays 2,840 Simoleons.

The highest payouts come from mobile apps, computer games, and major hacking contracts. Ambitious MMO Project pays 6,445 Simoleons, and the top [REDACTED] gig pays 7,265 Simoleons. When you pass level 1 through overmax progression, your hourly pay increases by 10 Simoleons per level.

The Freelance Programmer career does not split into branches. Every Sim stays on the single Freelance Programmer track and works toward overmax levels. Because there is no branch choice, you increase your base pay through traits and degrees.

A Computer Science Degree (BS, honors) adds 41% to your hourly pay, while the regular BS adds 39%. The BA with honors adds 36%, and the standard BA adds 32%. The Knowledge trait also gives a 30% boost.

High school achievements and other traits increase your hourly rate too. Valedictorian adds 15%, while Graduated High School Early, Graduated with Honors, and Business Savvy each add 10%. Each bonus adds its percent to your base hourly pay.

When your performance is close to the promotion line, you have a 1% base chance for an early promotion. The Entrepreneurial trait multiplies this chance by 10, and the Growth Mindset moodlet multiplies it by 5. If performance hits the bottom line, the base demotion chance is 100%, unless the Professional Slacker trait multiplies it by 0.

If your Sim quits the career, the level they rejoin at drops by 1 every 2 days. You can also manage your career in Live mode using the cheat console. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC, Cmd + Shift + C on Mac, or all four shoulder buttons on console, then type testingcheats true.
