What are the odds that my Sim dies in The Sims 4?
Sims 4 death odds calculator
Pick the traits, mood and situation of your Sim, and the calculator shows the chance of each of the 17 random deaths. Deaths that follow a timer have no odds, so it lists their timers instead.
This calculator shows the exact odds of random deaths in The Sims 4. Some deaths happen by chance, while others use hidden timers or guaranteed triggers. You can check the base percentages and see how traits, skills, and moods change the math.
Most random deaths require a warning moodlet first. For example, a vending machine only kills a Sim who already has the Close Call moodlet. You can stop these deaths if you wait for the warning moodlet to expire.

How the game rolls a random death
The game uses two methods to decide if a risky action kills your Sim. Some deaths use a direct percentage roll with multipliers. Eating Pufferfish Nigiri has a 0.5 percent base chance to kill, which multiplies by 6 for Poor quality.
Other deaths use weighted outcomes. The game gives each possible result a weight and picks one when the action finishes. A Murphy bed malfunction gives survival a weight of 7 and death a weight of 3, for a 30 percent base chance.
Your Sim's skills, traits, and moodlets multiply those weights up or down. For mountain climbing, high Rock Climbing skill multiplies the safe outcomes, which lowers the chance of falling. For a broken Murphy bed, the death weight multiplies by 2.5, making a fatal crush much more likely.
Why some deaths have no odds
Not every death in The Sims 4 uses a random roll. Certain deaths happen every time you meet the conditions. Eating cake from a hungry cow plant or drinking three Beetle Juices in a row always turns your Sim into a ghost.
Timer deaths use a hidden meter that fills or drains at a set rate per sim-minute. Freezing and overheating add 1 to their meter each sim-minute in normal cold or heat, and 8 in extreme weather. The Sim dies when the meter hits 100.
You can stop most deaths with the cheat console in Live mode. Press Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac, then type death.toggle false. This stops every death that runs through a death interaction, though the third Beetle Juice still turns your Sim into a ghost.
Questions
What are the odds of dying from emotions in The Sims 4?
An Enraged or Mortified Sim has a 16.67 percent chance to die per emotional outburst animation. A Hysterical Sim has a 10 percent chance to die per outburst. After a non-fatal outburst, the game waits 30 to 50 sim-minutes before rolling again.
How does the Chased by Death trait affect death odds?
The This Is Your Final Warning... moodlet from the Chased by Death trait raises the odds for several random deaths. It multiplies the pufferfish death chance by 30, the Murphy bed death weight by 4, and the spellcaster overload death weight by 999,999. For killer chickens, a non-ghost Sim with the Chased by Death trait gets a 9,999,999 multiplier on the death weight.
Can a Sim die from the first lightning strike or electrocution?
No, the first shock or strike only gives a warning moodlet. A second shock while Seriously Fried kills a Clumsy Sim 100 percent of the time, and a Handy Sim 50 percent of the time. A second lightning strike while Supercharged has a 40 percent base chance to kill.
What are the odds of a meteor hitting a Sim?
Watching the sky through a telescope has a 1 percent base chance per telescope action to trigger a meteor. If triggered, you get a warning moodlet and 20 sim-minutes before the meteor lands.
How do you resurrect a Sim who died a random death?
Add the ghost to your household and open the cheat console in Live mode. Type traits.remove_trait followed by that death's ghost trait, such as trait_ghost_Anger or trait_Ghost_Meteorite. Removing the ghost trait brings the Sim back to life.
