How collections and item rarity work
Every collection requires a specific number of items to complete. The game divides these required items into common, uncommon, and rare categories. For example, the Frogs collection needs 25 items, made of 8 common, 11 uncommon, and 6 rare frogs.
Some sets feature only one rarity level for their main items. Experimental Food Photos requires 20 common items, and Message in a Bottle requires 20 uncommon items. Omiscan Treasures needs 13 rare items, while Village Fair Ribbons needs 9 rare items.
You can also find bonus items for certain collections. These extra items belong to the collection, yet they do not count toward completing it. Crystals has 20 main items and 7 bonus items, while Elements has 15 main items and 1 bonus item.

Gardening is the largest collection in the game. It requires 32 items to finish, and it includes 55 bonus items. Other large sets include Nordhaven Bike Parts with 28 items, Magical Artifacts with 26 items, and Tarot Cards with 26 items.
Several small collections need only 4 items to complete. These include Cozy Wreaths, Positivity Posters, Space Rocks, and Touch Grass Weekly. Holiday Cracker Plushies requires 8 items, and Antique Curio Keys requires 5 items.
Finishing certain collections gives your household Simoleons. Magic Beans (PlantSim Challenge) requires 6 common items and pays the highest reward of 5,000 Simoleons. Lightsaber Parts, Omiscan Treasures, and Swords of Ondarion each pay 1,000 Simoleons, while Holiday Cracker Plushies pays 150 Simoleons.
