How many ways can a Sim die in The Sims 4?

Every way to die in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 has 36 ways to die. 17 of them are random rolls with exact odds; the others follow a timer or always happen when one thing goes wrong.

Sims die in The Sims 4 through chance rolls, ticking timers, and fixed triggers. The base game includes deaths from emotions, hunger, fire, drowning, electrocution, overexertion, cow plants, meteors, and old age. Expansion, game, and stuff packs add more hazards, from freezing weather to killer rabbits.

You can prevent most deaths by watching for warning moodlets and stopping the risky action right away. If you want to turn death off, open the cheat console in Live mode and enter death.toggle false. You can also bring a household ghost back to life by removing their specific ghost trait.

How random deaths and timed deaths work

Chance deaths roll the dice each time your Sim repeats a dangerous action or has an emotional outburst. Most physical hazards give you a warning moodlet after the first failure, such as Seriously Fried or Supercharged. If you stop the activity and let that warning moodlet expire, your Sim stays safe.

Timed deaths use a hidden meter or countdown instead of a random roll. Starving, freezing, overheating, poison, and toxic mold all kill your Sim when their timer runs out. For example, regular freezing weather gives you 100 sim-minutes after the Freezing moodlet appears, while extreme cold gives you 12.5 sim-minutes.

Some deaths happen every time you meet the conditions, with no random roll or countdown. Eating the cake from a hungry cow plant kills a Sim, and so does burning until the fire runs its course, unless the Sim is out in the rain (Seasons). Drinking a third Beetle Juice while Feeling Strange and Unusual is active also turns your Sim into a ghost right away.

Common deaths you will see in play

Emotional deaths happen when a young adult, adult, or elder reaches the strongest level of anger, embarrassment, or playfulness. While your Sim is Enraged, Mortified, or Hysterical, each outburst animation rolls a chance to kill them. Enraged and Mortified outbursts have a 16.67 percent base chance, while Hysterical outbursts have a 10 percent base chance.

Everyday household chores and hobbies also carry high risks if you ignore the first warning. Repairing electronics with Handiness at level 9 or lower can shock your Sim and give them the Seriously Fried moodlet for 180 sim-minutes. A second shock during that window has a 75 percent base chance to kill most Sims, and a 100 percent base chance for Clumsy Sims.

Weather and fitness routines cause frequent deaths if you do not watch your Sim's moodlets. Elders and Sims with Fitness at level 4 or lower quickly become Dangerously Tired when they work out, swim, or woohoo. Continuing to work out in that state fills the exhaustion meter in 67 sim-minutes on average.

Questions

How do you turn off death in The Sims 4?

Open the cheat console in Live mode and type death.toggle false. This command stops every death that runs through a death interaction. It does not stop Death by Beetles, because the third drink adds the ghost trait directly.

How do you bring a ghost back to life with cheats?

Add the ghost to your household, open the cheat console, and use traits.remove_trait followed by their ghost trait name. For example, type traits.remove_trait trait_ghost_Anger to revive a Sim who died of anger. Removing the ghost trait brings the Sim back to life.

Can children and teens die from emotions?

No, children and teens cannot die from anger, embarrassment, or laughter. Only young adults, adults, and elders can die from emotional outbursts. Vampires are also immune to these emotional deaths.

Why did a meteor hit my Sim after using a telescope?

Every telescope action has a 1 percent base chance to trigger a meteorite. When the warning moodlet appears, you have 20 sim-minutes before the meteor lands on your Sim.

Which Sims are immune to drowning and sunlight?

Vampires and mermaids cannot drown when their Energy or Hunger runs out in the water. Only vampires can die from sunlight, which takes 60 sim-minutes of direct sun without sun perks or weaknesses.
