Daily shifts and pay in the Detective career
From level 1 to level 7, you work 9 hours a day for 45 hours a week. Your schedule shifts from weekdays at level 1 to include weekends at level 2 and level 3. From level 4 to level 6, you work Tuesday through Saturday.
Your workdays return to Monday through Friday at level 7. At level 8, your daily shift drops to 8 hours for a 40-hour week. Level 9 gives you Wednesday off, which lowers your weekly hours to 32.
Pay starts at 20 Simoleons an hour and reaches 265 Simoleons an hour at level 10. After reaching level 10, you can still earn raises. Each overmax level adds 10 Simoleons to your hourly pay.
Career tracks and degree pay bonuses
The Detective career does not split into branches. Every Sim follows the same path from Cadet to Chief. You reach the top weekly pay of 10,600 Simoleons at level 10.
Certain traits and degrees boost your hourly pay at every level. A Psychology Degree (BS, honors) adds 41%, while a regular BS adds 39%. A Psychology Degree (BA, honors) adds 36%, and a standard BA adds 32%.
Other traits also increase your base rate. The Knowledge trait adds 30%, and the Valedictorian trait adds 15%. You get a 10% bonus from Business Savvy, Graduated High School Early, or Graduated with Honors.
Promotions, demotions, and Detective career cheats
When your work performance nears the promotion line, you have a 1% base chance for an early promotion. The Entrepreneurial trait multiplies this chance by 10. If you quit the job, you lose one career level every 2 days.
Low work performance can cause a demotion at the end of a shift. When performance falls to the demotion line, the base chance of a demotion is 100%. The Professional Slacker trait multiplies this chance by 0, which prevents demotions.
