A mayor in Chicago settling a council disputeHow to play a mayor in LifeSim
- Describe your mayor in the text box with a name, age, look, and background story.
- Include a real city or town in your description so the game places you on that 3D map.
- Use place search to find the real City Hall, local parks, or stations and walk there.
- Talk to constituents and department heads in person or by text message to solve local issues.
How other games handle the mayor role
Most mayor games focus on urban planning and budgets. In SimCity 4 and Cities: Skylines, you zone neighborhoods, build transit networks, and manage public utilities from the sky. If you want to lay pipes and balance municipal budgets, those games do that part best.
Other games focus on politics or daily errands. Urban Empire lets you negotiate with opposing factions in council chambers across two centuries. Animal Crossing: New Leaf puts you in Town Hall with your secretary Isabelle to fund bridges and attend completion ceremonies.
LifeSim is a social simulator, not a city builder. You play a fictional mayor walking the real streets of a real city. You talk to constituents and department heads in your own words, and they remember what you promise.
Life outside City Hall
Full-time mayors work long hours with daytime briefings, evening council sessions, and weekend ceremonies. Residents often stop them on the street to complain about potholes, snowplow schedules, or delayed trash pickup. You lose some personal privacy and stay on call for water main breaks or severe weather.
In LifeSim, you balance these public duties with your personal life. You can plan an outing with your partner, invite friends to a café, or attend a birthday party. People text you on their own and invite you to group threads, karaoke nights, or pickup games.
Real cities for a mayor story
Name any city in your character description, and the game places you on its real 3D map. In New York City, you can visit New York City Hall and Gracie Mansion in Carl Schurz Park. In Chicago, the mayor works on the fifth floor of Chicago City Hall in the Loop.
European capitals offer historic civic buildings. In Paris, the mayor works out of the Hôtel de Ville along the Seine and wears a tricolor sash. In London, you can visit City Hall in the Royal Docks or Guildhall in the Square Mile.
You can also play in Rome or Tokyo. In Rome, the Sindaco works at the Palazzo Senatorio atop the Capitoline Hill. In Tokyo, municipal leaders work at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku.
What a mayor life looks like in LifeSim
You start by writing your character name, age, city, and job in one text box. You set your own life goals and daily to-do list, such as holding a public hearing or visiting a park. Each day moves forward and ends with a recap of your moments.
There is no election mini-game or approval meter. Instead, you build relationships with neighbors and council members through open conversation. On desktop, you can even use Build mode to draw a new civic building and place it in your city.
A sample first week in Chicago
Elena, 48, starts her week as the fictional mayor of Chicago. She adds two items to her daily to-do list: meet the parks director and settle a neighborhood noise dispute. Two neighbors are feuding over a barking dog, and they want a new municipal ordinance.
Elena uses place search to walk to Chicago City Hall in the Loop. She starts a group text thread with both neighbors and a city council member to broker a compromise. After they agree on quiet hours, she plans a weekend outing to a local park for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
