A deputy on patrol in Los AngelesHow to play a sheriff in LifeSim
- Write your character in the text box, including your name, age, sheriff role, and a real city.
- Edit your cast to add a chief deputy, a courthouse bailiff, or a rival candidate.
- Use place search to find a real courthouse, jail, or station on the 3D map and go there.
- Talk to residents and deputies in your own words, and track your daily duties on your to-do list.
A day on patrol in Los Angeles
Your shift starts in Los Angeles outside the Hall of Justice downtown. You check your daily to-do list for civil process tasks, like serving subpoenas or eviction notices. You use place search to find the Twin Towers Correctional Facility and walk there on the 3D map. Buildings show from the outside only, so the booking and remand work happens in your conversations.
In the afternoon, you patrol an unincorporated area and talk to residents on their front porches. You type your own words with no dialogue menus, and locals remember your promises. At night, the day ends with a recap of your moments and changes to your health and relationships.
A sample life: campaigning for sheriff in Chicago
Marcus, 45, is a veteran chief deputy in Chicago who sets a life goal to win the county election. On Monday, he stands outside the Richard J. Daley Center courthouse and talks with court bailiffs to ask for their support. He edits his cast to add a rival candidate, a former academy classmate who works at the Cook County Department of Corrections.
By Thursday, the rival sends Marcus a text message challenging his record on jail security. Marcus plans an outing to a local diner and invites three senior deputies to build his campaign team. They walk to the diner together on the map and talk as a group about the upcoming vote.
Life off duty: squad friends and weekends
A sheriff has a life outside the star-shaped badge and the squad room. Your family, neighbors, and fellow deputies have their own weekday and weekend routines. When your 12-hour shift ends, your partner or kids might text you on their own to ask about dinner.
On your days off, you can look for happenings on the map, such as a birthday drinks event or karaoke. You can also start a group text thread with courthouse staff to plan a weekend outing at a city park. How you treat people off duty changes your relationships just as much as your work.
The hard parts of the badge as story
In the real world, sheriff's officers often deliver bad news on hard days. In Australia and the UK, officers enforce writs of execution to seize property or recover unpaid debts. In the US, deputies serve divorce papers, execute home evictions, and patrol rural highways alone far from backup.
You can play out these tense moments in your LifeSim story. When you serve a court order to a neighbor, they record the event in their journal and bring it up weeks later. Long night shifts and hostile talks at front doors can lower your health and test your friendships.
