Is there an astronaut simulator game about life on Earth?
Astronaut simulator
Yes. Real astronauts spend most of their careers on the ground in training and Mission Control. In LifeSim, you play that daily life on a 3D map of Earth, with no spaceflight. The game is free and runs in your browser.
An astronaut candidate training in HoustonHow to play an astronaut in LifeSim
- Describe your astronaut in the text box, including your age, background, and family.
- Name a real space hub like Houston or Cologne in the text to start on that 3D map.
- Add training tasks to your daily to-do list, such as studying schematics or meeting a mentor.
- Use place search and text messages to balance your ground schedule with your family and peers.
A sample life: a new candidate in Houston
Elena, 32, starts her first month as an Astronaut Candidate, or ASCAN, in Houston, Texas. She sets a life goal to pass her six-hour underwater spacewalk exam at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory. On her daily to-do list, she writes down a study session for spacecraft electrical schematics.
During her practice dive, the stiff spacesuit rubs her shoulder raw, and she fails a repair checklist. She texts a veteran astronaut mentor in the corps to ask for technique tips. They use place search to meet at a coffee shop near Clear Lake and talk through the test.
The hard parts of ground training
Real astronauts wait years for a flight assignment with no guarantee they will ever launch. They face endless exams on medical procedures, foreign languages, and emergency malfunctions. You play out this pressure in your daily chats with your flight director and instructors.
Odd hours also strain your home life. When you work the overnight shift as CAPCOM in Mission Control, your spouse stays home alone. If you miss a family dinner for a simulator run or a trip overseas, your family remembers it.
Real cities for an astronaut career
Any town on Earth works in LifeSim. Houston, Texas, is the main hub for NASA, with the Johnson Space Center, Ellington Field, and the Clear Lake neighborhood. In Cologne, Germany, European and British astronauts train at the European Astronaut Centre.
You can also base your life in Montreal, Canada, and commute across the river to Longueuil. That suburb holds the John H. Chapman Space Centre, where crews practice robotics on the Canadarm2. For international rotations, you can place your character in Tsukuba, Japan, or Tokyo to study the Kibo module.
Life outside the space center
The astronaut corps is a tight group of pilots, doctors, and scientists. You can start a group text thread with fellow candidates and plan a weekend outing to a local park. You walk there together on the 3D map and talk in your own words.
You can also edit the people in your cast, such as your partner, your kids, or a rival pilot. Happenings appear on the city map, including birthday drinks, house parties, and pickup games. You choose when to study for your next sim and when to put family first.

Questions
Can I fly a rocket into space in LifeSim?
No. LifeSim stays on Earth and has no spaceflight or mini-games. If you want zero-gravity physics inside a suit, play Astronaut Simulator on PC.
Can I walk inside the Johnson Space Center buildings?
No. The 3D map shows real buildings from the outside only. You visit the real places on the map and play out your training in conversation.
What do real astronauts do on the ground?
They spend up to six hours underwater in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory to practice spacewalks. They also work console shifts as CAPCOM in Mission Control and fly T-38 Talon jets.
How do people become astronauts in real life?
In the United States, NASA applicants need a master's degree in a STEM field and related work or jet pilot experience. Selected recruits complete two years of basic Astronaut Candidate training.
Is this astronaut life game free?
Yes. LifeSim is free in the browser on phones and desktops at play.lifesim.com. You can play as a guest with no download.
