Is there a pilot simulator about life outside the cockpit?
Pilot simulator
Yes. Flight simulators let you fly planes, while LifeSim lets you live the life between flights. You play a pilot in a real city on a 3D map and talk to crewmates in your own words. It is free in your browser with no download.
A junior First Officer in an Atlanta crashpadHow to play a pilot in LifeSim
- Describe your pilot in the text box with a name, age, license level, and story.
- Name your base city in the prompt so the game puts you on that real 3D map.
- Edit your cast to add a Captain, a crashpad roommate, a flight instructor, or a partner.
- Use place search to visit real airports, hotels, and cafes, and talk to your crew in your own words.
Life between flights, layovers, and days off
Real airline pilots leave their work at the arrival gate. Once they set the parking brake and finish the walk-around, they have no emails to take home. In LifeSim, you play out this time off with friends, dates, and family.
You can share a commuter crashpad with other crew members or explore a city during a layover. Use place search to find a real cafe, gym, or park near the airport. Invite a flight attendant or First Officer on an outing and talk in your own words.
What a pilot life looks like in LifeSim
You start by writing your character, from a young Certified Flight Instructor to a senior widebody Captain. The game places you on a real 3D map of Earth with real streets and weather. You set life goals, such as passing a simulator checkride or logging 1,500 flight hours.
Time moves day by day, and each day ends with a recap. Your cast of crewmates, bosses, and family members have their own routines and memories. They remember what you say in group texts and bring it up weeks later.
A sample life: a First Officer in Atlanta
Marcus, 26, is a new First Officer in Atlanta waiting on reserve duty. He lives in a crashpad near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with three other pilots. He adds a daily to-do item to study his Electronic Flight Bag manuals before his next rotation.
His partner back home texts him about a missed birthday dinner. Marcus promises to make it up to her on his next days off. That night, a crashpad roommate invites him to a karaoke happening at a local spot in downtown Atlanta.
Fatigue, checkrides, and reserve duty as story
Aviation comes with hard parts, including overnight red-eye shifts, time zone changes, and constant testing. Every few months, real pilots must pass simulator proficiency checkrides and routine medical exams. A failed test or health issue can ground a pilot right away.
You can play out this stress in your conversations and daily goals. Edit your cast to make your simulator examiner an old rival from flight school. If you miss a family holiday while on reserve duty, your partner will remember it.
Real aviation cities for your pilot story
In Atlanta, you can live near the headquarters of Delta Air Lines and its massive simulator training complexes. In Anchorage, you can play a bush pilot operating a floatplane out of Lake Hood Seaplane Base. You can also fly trans-Pacific cargo jets out of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
In Montreal, your story sits alongside Air Canada, the International Civil Aviation Organization, and CAE simulator factories. You can also base your pilot at London Heathrow or fly long-haul widebody routes out of Dubai.

Questions
Can I fly airplanes in LifeSim?
No. LifeSim has no flying mini-games or cockpits. Microsoft Flight Simulator and X-Plane 12 do the flying part well, while LifeSim focuses on your life on the ground.
How many hours do real airline pilots need?
In the United States and Canada, pilots need 1,500 flight hours for an Airline Transport Pilot license. In the United Kingdom, graduates can start as a First Officer with a frozen ATPL and unfreeze it at 1,500 hours.
Can I walk inside the airport terminal or hotel rooms?
No. Buildings on the 3D map show from the outside only. You travel to real airports and hotels on the map and play out crew room chats in text.
Is there a promotion system from First Officer to Captain?
LifeSim has no built-in career ladder or job performance score. You can set a life goal to become a Captain and act out your simulator checkride in your story.
Can I have a family while working as a pilot?
Yes. You can edit your partner and kids in your cast, text them during layovers, and plan outings when you return home.
