Real cities for a young adult life
You can start your life in any city or town on Earth. Boston in the United States has dozens of colleges, walkable neighborhoods, and many students and recent graduates. Montreal in Canada is a bilingual city with major universities, year-round festivals, and a dense metro network.
Berlin in Germany is famous for its shared flats, called Wohngemeinschaften or WGs, along with its parks and nightlife. When you move into a flat in Germany, you must register your address within 14 days. This process is called Anmeldung. In Bologna, Italy, daily social life happens in historic piazzas around the oldest continuously operating university in the world.
Melbourne in Australia puts universities close to the city center, with a famous cafe and live music culture. Tokyo in Japan offers safe solo living in compact studio apartments, 24-hour convenience stores, and entry-level jobs. Like Germany, Japan requires new residents to register their address at a municipal office, a record called Juminhyo.
A first week as a barista in Berlin
Lukas, 20, moves into a shared flat in Berlin and starts a part-time barista job while taking university classes. He sets a life goal to pass his final exams and save money. On his daily to-do list, he writes down registering his address and buying groceries.
His two flatmates have their own weekday routines, jobs, and friends. On Wednesday, one flatmate texts Lukas to complain about dirty dishes in the kitchen. Lukas apologizes in his own words, and the flatmate remembers the promise later that week.
On Friday, a coworker invites Lukas in a group text thread to a birthday drinks happening on the map. Before going, Lukas plans an outing with a classmate to study at a real cafe near Alexanderplatz. At the end of each day, a recap shows the best moments and how his cash and relationships changed.
Roommates, classmates, and bosses in your cast
You can edit the people in your cast at any time. Add flatmates who share your apartment and argue over chores or become lifelong friends. You can also edit your parents, who act as long-distance advisors or hosts for holiday visits.
Add classmates from university clubs and hobby groups to build your social circle for weekend outings. At your entry-level job, you can create a shift manager or workplace mentor. Every person keeps a journal of past events and uses recent memories when they talk or text with you.
How to set up your young adult life
Start by writing your character's name, age, job, and city in the main text box. You can write a story about interviewing three strangers to fill an empty bedroom in your shared flat. Or you can play a busy week balancing university exams, barista training shifts, and a best friend's birthday concert.
Once you are in the city, set life goals like finding a stable career path or making new friends. Use your daily to-do list for small tasks like doing laundry, cooking a simple meal, or submitting tax forms. Check the map for happenings like house parties, karaoke, pickup games, or a public breakup.
