You can increase your learning speed by putting your child Sim in a Focused mood. Active moodlets and traits also multiply the points you earn. If you want to skip the work, you can use a cheat in Live mode.

How the Mental skill points scale per level
Each level of the Mental skill requires more points than the one before it. You need 100 points to reach level 1, and then 1,000 additional points to reach level 2. By level 5, you need 2,619 points from the previous level, bringing your total to 7,749 points.
The point jumps grow larger in the second half of the skill. Going from level 5 to level 6 takes 3,150 points. The final push from level 9 to level 10 requires 4,230 points, ending at 26,199 total points.
Emotions and boosts for faster Mental skill gain
Emotions change how fast your Sim gains skill points. A Focused Sim gets a 1.4 multiplier, and a Very Focused Sim gets a 1.6 multiplier. Negative emotions slow you down, with Angry and Sad giving a 0.8 multiplier, Very Angry and Very Sad giving 0.6, and Enraged dropping gain to 0.4.
You can combine emotions with traits and moodlets because several multipliers work together. The Being Tutored moodlet gives a 2.5 multiplier, while Omega Brain Boost gives a 2 multiplier. Moodlets like Dedication, Mental Boost, Morel Support, Perfected, and Playtime Flashback each give a 1.5 multiplier, and the Strong Mental Affinity trait gives 1.4.
General skill boosts also speed up your progress. The Snaggle Flustered boost multiplies your skill gain by 4. Parental Guidance and Skilling on Up both give a 3 multiplier to your point gain.
Unlocks at high levels and the Mental cheat
Advancing through the Mental skill unlocks new interactions at specific levels. Level 3 unlocks Add Some Goobleck and Add Some Phozone, while level 4 unlocks Health Potion. At level 5, your child Sim can use Add Some Melacoo and Discuss Fractions.
Higher levels unlock the remaining interactions for this skill,though no careers ask for it. Level 7 adds Ask Impossible Riddle and Emotion Potion, and level 9 adds Add Some Alcineat and Attempt Mental Telepathy. Reaching level 10 unlocks the Stink Drink interaction.
