A first week in Mona and New Kingston

Andre, 20, starts a new life as a student living in Mona. He sets two life goals: make close friends on campus and meet a local musician. On his first morning, he searches the map for the University of the West Indies Mona Campus. He walks there and talks to a classmate in his own words.

In the afternoon, his classmate sends a text message and invites him to an outing. They walk to Devon House on Hope Road and talk with two other friends. Later in the week, a house party happening appears on the map in New Kingston. Andre attends, and the day ends with a recap of his moments.

Food, markets, and going out in Kingston

Kingston has famous local dishes like jerk chicken smoked over pimento wood, ackee and saltfish, and curry goat. People also eat patties tucked into coco bread, or oxtail with broad beans. For groceries, residents go to Coronation Market on Pechon Street. Vendors there sometimes give brawta, a small extra amount of food for free.

In LifeSim, you can plan outings with friends to real dining and nightlife spots. Search the map for Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston to visit bars and restaurants. You can also go to Kingston Dub Club on Skyline Drive in the hills. The people you bring along remember the outing in their journals.

Famous Kingston places to search on the map

You can use the place search tool to visit landmarks across the city. Search for Emancipation Park in New Kingston or the Royal Botanical Gardens in Mona to take a walk. Go to the Trench Town Culture Yard on Lower First Street to see the birthplace of reggae. You can also visit the National Gallery of Jamaica on Ocean Boulevard downtown.

For history, search for National Heroes Park or head out to Fort Charles in Port Royal. Buildings in the game show from the outside only. You walk up to the real spots on the 3D map and talk with the people around you.

How it works

  1. Describe your character in one text box. Name Kingston in the text.
  2. The game reads the city from your text and puts you in the real Kingston, on a 3D map.
  3. Live day by day. Go to real places, meet people, and talk to them in your own words.

Questions

Can I visit the Bob Marley Museum in the game?

Yes. You can search for the Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road and walk there. The map shows the real building from the outside, as there are no rooms or interiors.

Can I record reggae music or play a music mini-game?

No. LifeSim has no music making mini-games or fame meters. You can write that you are a reggae singer in your character text, and people react to it.

Do people in the game speak Jamaican Patois?

No. LifeSim is in English only, so characters reply to you in English. You can still use local greetings like Wah Gwaan when you type your own messages.

Can I drive a route taxi or ride a JUTC bus?

No. You cannot drive vehicles or ride buses inside the game. You move around by searching for places on the 3D map and walking there.
