Is there a Marseille life simulator?

Marseille life simulator

Yes. LifeSim puts you in the real Marseille on a 3D map of the real streets. You make a character, pick a job, and live there day by day. The game is free and runs in your browser with no download.

Life in Marseille

Marseille is France's oldest city and largest commercial seaport on the Mediterranean coast. Daily life happens outdoors at open-air markets, on sunny café terraces, and on coastal rocks where people swim. A life here can be a shipping worker in La Joliette or an artist in Cours Julien.

Where to live in Marseille

Le Panier

The oldest quarter above the harbor, with car-free stepped alleys, artisan shops, and quiet squares.

Noailles

A dense central neighborhood packed with North African spice stalls and the Marché des Capucins.

Cours Julien & La Plaine

A hilltop district covered in street art, with record shops, bookshops, and crowded café terraces.

Endoume & Malmousque

Coastal lanes and flat rocks where locals swim after work near the port of Vallon des Auffes.

La Joliette

Former docks turned into the Euroméditerranée business district, with stone warehouses and modern office towers.

Seasons, the Mistral wind, and Mediterranean weather

Marseille sits on the Mediterranean coast and gets abundant sunshine all year. Summers are hot and dry, so locals spend evenings by the sea to catch the breeze. Spring is mild and marks the return of hiking in the Parc National des Calanques.

Autumn is warm, though sudden, heavy Mediterranean rainstorms happen at times. Winters stay mild, but the Mistral often blows down the Rhône valley. This cold, dry wind chills the streets and keeps the sky clear while you walk the 3D map.

Food, markets, and going out in Marseille

Local dishes include bouillabaisse rockfish stew, fried chickpea panisse, and half-cheese, half-anchovy pizza called moitié-moitié. In the morning, residents buy fish at the Marché aux Poissons on the Vieux-Port or spices at Marché des Capucins in Noailles. You can search for these markets on the map and walk there.

In the evening, people play pétanque in public squares and drink pastis diluted with cold water. For nightlife, you can go to the bars of Cours Julien or Quai de Rive Neuve. You can also plan a group outing to La Friche la Belle de Mai.

A day in Marseille in LifeSim

Say you start as a 28-year-old port logistics coordinator at CMA CGM in La Joliette. In the morning, you check your daily to-do list and search for a café on Place Jean-Jaurès. You walk there on the 3D map and chat with a neighbor in your own words.

At lunch, a coworker texts you to invite you to the harbour near Fort Saint-Jean. After work, a birthday drinks happening appears on the map in Cours Julien, and you join the group. The day ends with a recap, and your friends keep the memory in their journals.

A sample life: a student's first week

Leo, 20, moves to Noailles to study at the Saint-Charles campus of Aix-Marseille University. He writes his story in the text box and sets a goal to make three local friends. On day one, he searches for Palais Longchamp and walks to the park.

There, he meets a local musician who uses the word peuchère in chat. On day four, the musician starts a group text and plans an outing to Vallon des Auffes. By day seven, Leo goes to a house party happening in Endoume, and everyone remembers his first week.

Getting around Marseille on the map

In the real city, the RTM runs two metro lines, three tram lines, buses, and sea shuttles. People walk the steep stairs of Le Panier, ride levélo e-bikes along the Corniche Kennedy, or drive scooters through traffic.

LifeSim does not have cars or scooters you drive, or trains you ride. Instead, you search for any real station, street, or beach on the 3D map and go there directly. You can also walk through the streets with friends during an outing.

How it works

  1. Describe your character in one text box. Name Marseille in the text.
  2. The game reads the city from your text and puts you in the real Marseille, on a 3D map.
  3. Live day by day. Go to real places, meet people, and talk to them in your own words.

Questions

Can I visit the Vieux-Port and Notre-Dame de la Garde in the game?

Yes. You can search for the Vieux-Port de Marseille, Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, or MuCEM on the 3D map and go there. Buildings show from the outside only.

Is the game in French?

No. LifeSim is in English only. People talk to you in English, and the streets and places keep their real French names.

Can I play football at the Stade Vélodrome?

No. You can walk to the Stade Vélodrome and talk about Olympique de Marseille with friends, but there are no sports matches or mini-games.

What do the local words fada, tarpin, and La Bonne Mère mean?

La Bonne Mère is the local nickname for the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica. Fada means crazy or overly enthusiastic, and tarpin means very or a lot.

Do I have to pay rent in expensive areas like Endoume?

No. In real life, southern districts like Endoume and Périer cost much more than Noailles or the Quartiers Nord. LifeSim has no rent or bills, and your cash changes through chats and activities.
