Is there a game where you can live in Brooklyn?
Brooklyn life simulator
Yes. LifeSim puts you in the real Brooklyn on a 3D map of the streets. You make a character and live there day by day. The people in the borough have jobs, routines, and friends, and they remember you. It is free and runs in the browser.
Start a life in BrooklynLife in Brooklyn
Brooklyn is a borough of New York City on the western end of Long Island across from Manhattan. It is known for historic brownstone row houses, the Brooklyn Bridge, Prospect Park, and distinct cultural neighborhoods. Daily life revolves around walking tree-lined streets, shopping at corner bodegas, sitting on front stoops, and taking the subway.
Where to live in Brooklyn
Park Slope
Historic brownstones, families walking to weekend farmers markets, and picnics in Prospect Park.
Williamsburg
Converted industrial warehouses, indie music venues, vintage shops, and the Smorgasburg food market.
DUMBO
Cobblestone streets, tech offices, and waterfront parks beneath two huge suspension bridges.
Greenpoint
Traditional Polish bakeries and meat markets on Manhattan Avenue alongside modern cafes.
Sunset Park
Busy Asian and Latin American food markets and a hillside park overlooking the harbor.
Getting around Brooklyn
In the real borough, the New York City Subway is the main way to travel. Lines like the A, C, F, G, L, and Q trains connect the neighborhoods. Many people also take the Long Island Rail Road from Atlantic Terminal or ride the NYC Ferry along the waterfront. Walking and riding Citi Bikes on protected paths like Kent Avenue and Eastern Parkway are also common.
In LifeSim, you do not ride trains or drive cars on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. You move around by searching for real places on the 3D map. Type in a subway station, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, or a local bodega, and go there.
Money and the cost of living in Brooklyn
Living in Brooklyn is very expensive compared to most of the United States, though it costs less than Manhattan. Areas near the bridges, like DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, and Williamsburg, have the highest housing costs. Central neighborhoods like Crown Heights, Bed-Stuy, and Bushwick sit in the middle. Outer neighborhoods like Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, and Flatbush are more affordable.
LifeSim does not charge rent or bills, and jobs do not pay a regular salary. Instead, your cash changes through your daily activities and your chats with other people.
A day in Brooklyn in LifeSim
Say you start as a 28-year-old software engineer living in Greenpoint. In the morning, you search for a bakery on Manhattan Avenue and walk there before work. You talk to the baker in your own words, and they remember your order the next time you visit.
In the afternoon, a coworker texts you to plan an outing for coal-oven pizza in DUMBO. Later, a live music happening appears on the map in Williamsburg, and you go with friends. The day ends with a recap of your moments.
A sample life: a designer in Sunset Park
Maya, 25, starts a life as an industrial designer working at Industry City in Sunset Park. She sets two life goals: make close friends in her neighborhood and visit the Brooklyn Museum. On weekdays, she walks along 8th Avenue to eat Cantonese dim sum and hand-pulled noodles.
In her second week, a neighbor invites her to a group text thread for a weekend outing. They meet at the Saturday farmers market at Grand Army Plaza and walk into Prospect Park together. Each person keeps a journal of these events and remembers what Maya says.
Neighborhoods for different lives in the borough
Your character text sets where you live and what you do. A college student at Pratt Institute or NYU Tandon can live near Downtown Brooklyn and eat at DeKalb Market Hall. A nurse at Maimonides Medical Center might live in a quieter southern area like Bay Ridge or Midwood.
Families often choose Park Slope or Carroll Gardens to be near Prospect Park and Smith Street restaurants. Musicians and artists often pick Bushwick or Williamsburg for the indie venues and converted warehouses. When locals say they are going into the City, they mean Manhattan across the river.

How it works
- Describe your character in one text box. Name Brooklyn in the text.
- The game reads the city from your text and puts you in the real Brooklyn, on a 3D map.
- Live day by day. Go to real places, meet people, and talk to them in your own words.
Questions
Can I visit Prospect Park or the Brooklyn Bridge in the game?
Yes. The map shows the real streets and landmarks in 3D, with people walking around. You can search for Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, or the Coney Island Boardwalk and go there.
Can I ride the New York City Subway or drive on the BQE?
No. LifeSim does not have subways you ride or cars you drive. You search for a station, a park, or a cafe on the 3D map and go there directly.
Can I buy or furnish a brownstone in Park Slope?
No. The game has no home buying, mortgages, interiors, or furniture. You can write that you live in a Park Slope brownstone in your character text, and buildings show from the outside.
What do locals mean when they talk about a bodega and a stoop?
A bodega is a small corner store that sells groceries and sandwiches, such as a bacon, egg, and cheese. A stoop is the front staircase of a brownstone where neighbors sit and talk in warm weather.
Does the game have weather and seasons?
Yes, the 3D map has weather. In the real world, Brooklyn has four seasons, with cherry blossoms in spring, humid summers, cool autumns, and cold winters.
