Is there a Hollywood life simulator game?

Hollywood life simulator

Yes. LifeSim puts you in the real Hollywood in Los Angeles, on a 3D map of the real streets. You make a character, pick a job, and live there day by day. The people in the neighborhood have routines and friends, and they remember what you say. It is free and runs in your browser.

Start a life in Hollywood

Life in Hollywood

Hollywood is a central district in Los Angeles, south of the Santa Monica Mountains. Daily life mixes tourist streets along Hollywood Boulevard with quiet residential canyons and neighborhood cafes. Residents work in film, music, hospitality, or healthcare, hike in mountain parks, and shop at the Sunday farmers' market.

Where to live in Hollywood

Hollywood Hills

Steep canyon roads and hillside estates with views of the Los Angeles basin.

Beachwood Canyon

Historic homes beneath the Hollywood Sign with a small market area and hiking trails.

Whitley Heights

Early twentieth-century Mediterranean villas along quiet hilltop stair-streets.

East Hollywood

Apartment buildings, family bakeries, and noodle shops across Thai Town and Little Armenia.

Franklin Village

A walkable street at the base of the hills with bookstores, comedy clubs, and bistros.

Work in Hollywood and the entertainment industry

Hollywood is the historical center of American film, television, and music recording. Big employers include Paramount Pictures, Netflix, Capitol Records, Sunset Bronson Studios, and Sunset Gower Studios. Many people also work in healthcare at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center or Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center.

Typical jobs include film crew members, video editors, talent agents, writers, actors, tour guides, and restaurant workers. In LifeSim, you start any job by writing it into your character text box. There is no job performance score, and the people you meet talk to you about your work.

A sample life: an editor's first month

Maya, 26, moves to an apartment in East Hollywood to work as a video editor. She sets two life goals: meet other film workers and visit every landmark on Hollywood Boulevard. In her first week, she eats boat noodles in Thai Town and chats with her neighbor.

In week two, a coworker invites Maya by text message to get chili dogs at Pink's Hot Dogs on La Brea Avenue. Maya plans a weekend outing with two friends to hike in Runyon Canyon Park. Later in the month, a house party happens in the Hollywood Hills, and she goes. Every person she talks to keeps a journal and remembers her.

A day in Hollywood in LifeSim

You start the morning in Franklin Village during May Gray, when cool coastal clouds cover the sky. You check your daily to-do list and search the map for a cafe on Franklin Avenue. You walk there and talk in your own words with a comedian at the next table.

In the afternoon, the sun comes out, and you walk past the Capitol Records Building near Hollywood and Vine. A friend texts you about a birthday drinks happening in the Cahuenga Corridor. You walk to Cahuenga Boulevard, talk with the group, and end the day with a recap of your moments.

Money and the cost of living in Hollywood

Living in Hollywood is expensive compared to national norms because of high housing and transportation costs. Hillside homes in the Hollywood Hills, Whitley Heights, and Beachwood Canyon cost the most. High-rise towers near Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street are also expensive, while older apartments in Little Armenia and Thai Town cost less.

LifeSim does not charge rent, bills, or mortgages, and it does not pay a regular salary. You do not buy homes or furniture. Instead, your cash changes directly through the daily activities you do and the chats you have.

How it works

  1. Describe your character in one text box. Name Hollywood in the text.
  2. The game reads the city from your text and puts you in the real Hollywood, on a 3D map.
  3. Live day by day. Go to real places, meet people, and talk to them in your own words.

Questions

Can I visit the Hollywood Sign or the Walk of Fame?

Yes. You can use place search to find the Hollywood Sign, the TCL Chinese Theatre, or the Hollywood Bowl. You walk to the real locations on the 3D map, though buildings show from the outside only.

Is there a fame meter or follower count for actors?

No. LifeSim does not have a fame meter, follower counts, or career ladders. If you write that you are an actor, people react to your job in conversation.

Can I drive a car on the 101 freeway?

No. There are no vehicles you drive and no subways you ride in LifeSim. You move by searching for places on the map and walking there with friends.

What do locals mean by the Industry?

In Hollywood, residents use the term the Industry in daily talk to mean the film, television, and entertainment business. Locals also say the 101 to refer to the Hollywood Freeway, and they measure travel distance in minutes.

Can I study at a film school in Hollywood?

Yes. You can write in your prompt that you attend The Los Angeles Film School or Musicians Institute. Your classmates and neighbors will talk to you about your studies.
