Is there a South Africa life simulator game?
South Africa life simulator
Yes. LifeSim puts you in real South Africa, on a 3D map of the real streets. You make a character and live there day by day. It is free and runs in your browser.
Start a life in South AfricaLife in South Africa
Daily life in South Africa centers on close family networks, outdoor sports, and community gatherings. Most people commute by 16-seater minibus taxis or private cars, work from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and gather on weekends for a braai. A life here can be a corporate banker in Sandton, a university student in Pretoria, or a farmer in the Free State.
Where to live in South Africa
Johannesburg
Corporate offices in Sandton, shopping malls, and busy neighborhoods like Soweto.
Cape Town
Mountain trails, cold Atlantic surfing beaches, and street-side cafés.
Durban
A humid Indian Ocean port with the Golden Mile promenade, warm waves, and spicy curries.
Pretoria
Purple jacaranda trees, embassies, civil servants, and university students.
Gqeberha
An automotive manufacturing hub with short commutes and calm beaches on Algoa Bay.
The Cape Winelands
Historic university towns like Stellenbosch, wine harvests, and weekend farm markets.
A sample life: a Matric year in Pretoria
Thabo, 18, starts as a Grade 12 learner in Pretoria. He writes his life goals on day one: pass his Matric exams and save cash for a coastal holiday. You can also edit his family and classmates in the cast menu.
In week one, Thabo searches the 3D map for a school and a park. After school, a friend texts him to plan an outing to a corner shop for slap chips. They walk there together on the real streets and talk in their own words.
On Saturday, a pickup game appears on the map. Thabo joins his neighbors, and the day ends with a recap of his moments. Everyone he meets keeps a journal of what he said and remembers him next week.
Daily life, meals, and weekend braais
Standard office hours run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday. People often eat warm maize porridge, called slap pap, or dip rusks into rooibos tea for breakfast. Dinner is the main hot meal around 7:00 PM.
Weekends focus on extended family, Sunday morning religious services, and watching rugby, soccer, or cricket. Families gather on Sunday afternoon for a braai, grilling boerewors sausage and steak over coals. In December, many offices close as people travel to the coast or rural homesteads.
In LifeSim, you have no salary, rent, or cooking mini-games. Instead, your cash, health, and relationships change through your daily chats and activities.
Local words and customs to use
Warm greetings and handshakes come before any business. People show respect to older neighbors by calling them Auntie or Uncle, or Tannie, Oom, Mama, and Baba. The social philosophy of Ubuntu emphasizes sharing and community spirit.
You talk to people in LifeSim in your own words, with no dialogue menus. You can say howzit for hello, yebo for yes, and lekker when something is good. If a friend says they will meet you now-now, that means in a few minutes.
Which South African city to pick
Each city gives your character a different routine. In Johannesburg, life moves between corporate offices in Sandton, shopping malls, and township neighborhoods like Soweto. You can search the map for a local shisa nyama spot or a Gautrain station.
In Cape Town, you can plan group outings to street-side cafés or Atlantic beaches. In Durban, you can walk the Golden Mile beachfront and talk about getting a curry bunny chow. Buildings show from the outside only, with no interiors.
Small towns and the countryside on the map
You do not have to live in a big metro. The 3D map covers all of Earth, so any named town works. You can start a life in Knysna along the Garden Route or in Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands.
Write a job as a wine farmer, a guesthouse owner, or a field guide in Limpopo. On desktop, you can use Build mode to draw a roadside padstal and place the 3D model in your town.

How it works
- Describe your character in one text box. Name a city or town in South Africa in the text.
- The game reads the place from your text and puts you there, on a 3D map of the real streets.
- Live day by day. Go to real places, meet people, and talk to them in your own words.
Questions
Can I live in Johannesburg or Cape Town in LifeSim?
Yes. Write any city or neighborhood, like Soweto or Stellenbosch, into your character text. The game reads the name and puts you on the real 3D map.
Can I drive a bakkie or ride a minibus taxi?
No. LifeSim has no vehicles you drive and no trains or buses you ride. You search for a real place on the map and walk there.
What is Matric in South Africa?
Matric is the universal name for Grade 12, the final year of high school. Students take the National Senior Certificate exams to get into university.
Is the game in isiZulu or Afrikaans?
No. LifeSim is in English only. The people talk to you in English, and the streets and towns keep their real names.
Are there other video games set in South Africa?
Yes. Beautiful Desolation is a sci-fi adventure game set in a futuristic South Africa. For soccer matches, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa does sports simulation better.
