It is the first new game in the series since the 3DS game. That game came out in 2013 in Japan and in 2014 in North America and Europe.

- March 27, 2025: Nintendo announced the game at the end of a Nintendo Direct.
- September 12, 2025: a second Direct showed how you make Miis. It said the game would come out in spring 2026.

- March 25, 2026: the free demo came out on the Nintendo eShop.
The demo lets you make up to three Miis. Your save carries over to the full game, according to Nintendo's store page.
Is Tomodachi Life on Switch 2?
Yes. It is a Switch game that also plays on Switch 2. There is no separate Switch 2 Edition. Nintendo's store page lists only the Switch version, and says the game acts the same on Switch 2.
Nintendo's FAQ lists these differences on Switch 2:
- The game loads faster.
- You can use GameChat to talk with friends and share your screen. GameChat needs Nintendo Switch Online.
- The game does not use Handheld Mode Boost. It already runs at 1080p in handheld mode.
- The game does not support the mouse controls of the Joy-Con 2.
The content of the game is the same on both systems.
Is Tomodachi Life on PC?
No. Nintendo sells Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream only for Nintendo Switch. There is no PC, Mac, or phone version. The old game was only on the Nintendo 3DS.

How much is Tomodachi Life?
Nintendo's US store lists the game at $59.99. Nintendo's listing gives the same price for the boxed copy and the download. You pay once. Prices change with sales and differ by country, so check the store before you buy.
The demo is free. It is a good way to see if you like the game first.
How is Living the Dream different from the 3DS game?
| Feature | Tomodachi Life (3DS) | Living the Dream (Switch) |
|---|---|---|
| Where Miis live | One apartment building | An island you lay out |
| Most Miis | 100 | 70 |
| Gender and dating | Male and female, opposite-sex couples only | Male, female, or non-binary; you set who each Mii can date |
The Palette House is new in Living the Dream. There you draw clothes, food, pets, and room designs. You can trade these items with players nearby. The island grows as you add Miis.
Some things stayed the same. Miis still fall in love, fight, marry, and have babies. They still talk in robotic voices. The 16 personality types also came back with new names. See the Tomodachi Life personality chart.
There are limits too. Nintendo's FAQ says you cannot move Miis from the game to other software. You also cannot send screenshots from the game to your phone or to social media with the system tools.
Does Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream get updates?
Yes. Nintendo released four updates after launch. The latest one we found is version 1.0.4, from July 22, 2026.
Nintendo's update notes list fixes, not new content. For example, they fix rare save errors, crashes, and problems with sending items to players nearby. Version 1.0.3 also fixed wrong day counts after Miis became sweethearts or got married.
Update the game before you play. Some of these fixes stop bugs that block your progress or close the game.
Want a life sim where people talk back?
Living the Dream is only on Switch. LifeSim, the game of this site, is a free life sim in your browser, set on a real map of Earth. People there talk back in your own words. You play one person instead of watching an island. It is English only. Read about the life simulator, or start with what Tomodachi Life is.
