What is Heartopia?
Heartopia is a cozy life sim from the studio XD. Steam describes it as “a multiplayer life simulation game focused on creativity, relaxation, and social connection”. Players build homes, follow hobbies, and make friends in a town.
The game came to Steam on January 16, 2026. Steam tags it Life Sim, Multiplayer, Cozy, Relaxing, Cute, and Character Customization.
Pocket Tactics names Heartopia as a rival of the new Sims game, with inZOI. Read our Project Rene post for the Sims side.
This post lists what the store pages say. We did not play the game. We say so where a fact comes from a fan site.
Is Heartopia free?
Yes, to download and play. Steam lists Heartopia as Free to Play. The store page also says that the game has in-game purchases, and that some of them are chance-based.
Google Play says the same in its content label: “In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items)”. The pages we read do not list prices.
The unofficial fan site Heartopia.life says that the purchases are for cosmetic and account items. Treat that line as a fan claim. Check the store page for the current offers.
Free does not mean that every part is open at once. The same fan site says that most hobbies need progress and a ticket. More on that below.
Which platforms does Heartopia run on?
Heartopia runs on Windows PC through Steam. The fan site Heartopia.life says it also runs on iOS and Android. It says that Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox, and native Mac are not listed, as of July 8, 2026.
We checked two official store pages. Steam lists Windows system requirements only. Google Play lists the Android app from XD Entertainment.
Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer as a feature. It does not name the platforms. The fan site does not state cross-play. Check this before you plan to play with a friend on a different device.
| Platform | What we found | Source |

The recommended setup is Windows 10 or 11 and 16 GB of RAM. It lists an Intel Core i5-6500 or AMD R3 1200 for the processor. It also lists a GTX 1060 or an RX 480 for graphics. Storage is 10 GB in both cases.
What can you do in Heartopia?
The fan site Heartopia.life lists seven core hobbies: Fishing, Cooking, Gardening, Birdwatching, Insect Catching, Cat Care, and Dog Care. Snow Sculpting is a seasonal hobby.
Progress runs through a level called DG Level. A player gains it through quests. Fishing and Gardening are open early. The other hobbies need a higher DG Level and Hobby Expansion Tickets.
The game also has home building, character customization, pets, and events. Friends can send invitations and gifts. The fan site says that multiplayer is not required for a full daily routine.
Steam lists both single-player and multi-player as features. This fits the fan claim. A player can enjoy the game alone, but the design points to friends.
Is Heartopia good?
Players disagree. Steam rates the game Mixed. 59% of 8,123 English reviews are positive. In the last 30 days, 69% of 384 reviews are positive.
Google Play is warmer. The Android app has 4.4 stars from 136 thousand reviews. The two stores have different players, so the numbers do not compare one to one.
We did not read the review text, so we cannot say why players are unhappy. Read the most helpful negative reviews on Steam before you invest time.
Does Heartopia need an account or internet?
Steam says that you need a third-party account to play. The options are Hi-Rez, Google, or Facebook. You must also accept a third-party EULA.
We found no statement about offline play. Do not assume that the game works without a connection. Steam describes Heartopia as a multiplayer game.

How do you start playing Heartopia?
Use these steps, based on the store pages and the fan site.
- Pick a platform. Open Steam on PC, or Google Play on Android.
- Sign in with a third-party account: Hi-Rez, Google, or Facebook.
- Accept the third-party EULA that Steam lists.
- Start with Fishing or Gardening. The fan site says these hobbies are open early.
- Finish quests to raise your DG Level. A higher level opens more hobbies.

Google Play gives Heartopia a content rating of 16+. The listed descriptors are Users Interact and In-Game Purchases (Includes Random Items).
Users Interact means that players can talk to each other. Random items means chance-based purchases. A parent must decide if both are acceptable. Set purchase limits on the device first.
Is Heartopia like The Sims?
It shares some parts. Both games have home building, character customization, and a life sim tag on Steam. Both also let you make friends.
The pages that we read do not mention aging, death, or a career ladder. The Sims 4 and Paralives have them. Heartopia looks more like a cozy hobby game with friends. Treat it as a different kind of game.
Read games like The Sims for closer matches. Read games like Animal Crossing for other cozy games.
