Tomodachi Life personality chart

All 16 Tomodachi Life personalities on one chart, with slider settings for each type, what personality changes, and how to change it.

The personality chart is a 4 by 4 grid of the 16 personality types in Tomodachi Life. The types sit in four groups of four: Considerate, Outgoing, Reserved, and Ambitious. Four sliders decide where a Mii lands on the grid.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the 2026 Switch game, uses the same 16 types as the 3DS game. Only the names changed. This post uses the North American names from Living the Dream, with the European names next to them.

LowObserver (Introvert)ThinkerRogue (Individualist)Maverick (Headstrong)

Each group fills one corner. Considerate is top left, Outgoing is top right, Reserved is bottom left, and Ambitious is bottom right.

When you make a Mii, the game shows five sliders. Each slider has eight positions.

  • Movement: slow to quick.
  • Speech: polite to honest. The European version says direct.
  • Energy: from flat to full of feeling.
  • Attitude: from serious to relaxed. Some guides call it Thinking.
  • Overall: normal to quirky.

Guides agree that the Overall slider does not change the type. The game does not show its formula. Fan tests found that it adds Movement and Speech into one total, and Energy and Attitude into another. The two totals pick the cell on the chart.

So a slow, polite Mii with lots of feeling and a relaxed attitude is Considerate. A quick, direct, flat, and serious Mii is Ambitious.

Count the positions from 1 at the left end to 8 at the right end. Each row below gives one setting that lands on that type. Other settings work too, if the two totals land in the same cell.

These settings come from the fan formula. We also tested the formula on the slider table from Destructoid. It gave the right type for all 16 rows.

Yes, the system is the same. The 3DS game also had 16 types in four groups, set with Movement, Speech, Expressiveness, Attitude, and Overall sliders. Nintendo Life reports that fan research found the hidden values to be the same in both games.

The names changed. The descriptions of each type stayed almost the same. This list matches the old North American names to the new ones.

Be careful with old guides. Charmer and Go-Getter are names in both games, but they point to different types.

  • House color. The color of a Mii's home follows its group: yellow for Considerate, red or pink for Outgoing, green for Reserved, and blue for Ambitious.
  • How it acts. Nintendo Life says personality changes how a Mii sits, looks at things, and talks with others.
  • Moods. The Tomodachi Life wiki says Reserved Miis walk normally when sad. Other Miis lean forward. Outgoing and Ambitious Miis stomp around when angry.
  • Friends. The wiki says Miis with near types on the chart tend to get along better.

Nintendo does not publish a compatibility table. The Tomodachi Life wiki says Miis close on the chart become friends more easily. Miis in opposite corners, such as Observer and Go-Getter, get along less often and fight more.

Opposite types can still become friends, fall in love, and marry. It is only less likely. Who a Mii can fall for depends on the dating preference you set, according to Nintendo's FAQ.

You can change it at any time in Living the Dream.

  1. Press X to open the menu.
  2. Open the Residents tab.
  3. Pick the Mii.
  4. Select the personality box near the bottom of its page.
  5. Move the sliders to the setting you want.
  6. Press + to save.

Tomodachi Life gives each Mii a type from a slider. LifeSim, the game of this site, works in a different way. It is a free life sim in your browser, set on a real map of Earth. You describe a person in your own words, and people talk back in their own words. It is English only. Read about the life simulator, or see more games like Tomodachi Life.

How many personalities are in Tomodachi Life?

16, in four groups of four. The 3DS game and Living the Dream both have 16.

Does the Overall slider change the personality?

No. Guides agree that only Movement, Speech, Energy, and Attitude decide the type.

Why do guides give different names?

The North American and European versions use different names. For example, Sweetie is Softie in Europe. The 3DS game used other names again.

Is there a best personality?

No. Each type only changes how a Mii acts and who it gets along with more easily.
