How to join the mafia in BitLife

How to join the mafia in BitLife: the requirements, the crime families, every rank to Godfather, the jobs, the risks, and how to leave.

Commit crimes while you are young, and do not get caught. When you are 18, open Occupation, then Special Careers, then Organized Crime. Pick a crime group and a family. Then pick a way to ask them, such as a small job for them.

If the family accepts you, you start as an Associate. If it rejects you, commit more crimes and try again later. You can also try a family with less notoriety.

You need the Mafia special career pack. Destructoid says that without it, you cannot join any crime group. We checked these steps against six game guides and the App Store in October 2026. Some guides are from 2020 to 2022. Candywriter can change the mafia in any update.

RequirementWhat you need
Age18 or older. Level Winner and The Nerd Stash both give this age.
Crime historySome crimes on your record. Gfinity says to commit at least five crimes after you turn 18.
No arrestsDistractify says that a family can reject you if you are not a good criminal. Do not get caught.
The Mafia packBuy the Mafia special career pack in the BitLife Marketplace, or get Boss Mode. Destructoid names both.

Do you need Bitizenship to join the mafia?

No source that we read says so. The guides name the Mafia pack, not Bitizenship. Bitizenship is a separate purchase. The App Store lists it at $7.99 or $9.99, and Boss Mode at $20.99.

Destructoid says that Boss Mode unlocks every current and future pack. We did not find a current price for the Mafia pack alone. Check the Marketplace in your game before you buy. For all the paid parts of the game, read is BitLife free.

Does the Crime talent help?

Yes. Level Winner says that Crime as a Special Talent makes crimes easier. You choose a talent for a new character in God Mode. See BitLife God Mode for how it works.

Distractify says that the first crimes open at age 8. They are pickpocketing, shoplifting, and small acts of mischief. The crimes get more serious as you get older.

  1. Start with small crimes at age 8.
  2. Get a driver’s license at 16. Distractify says that car theft then opens.
  3. Steal cars when you can. Gfinity calls grand theft auto a low risk crime that pays well.
  4. Try a bank robbery at 18, when it opens. Level Winner says to do no more than one a year.
  5. Repeat crimes over a few years. Level Winner says that a family with more notoriety needs more crimes.

Prison is not the end of the plan. Distractify says that a prison escape can impress a family. We cover the escape maze in how to escape prison in BitLife, so we do not repeat it here.

There are six crime groups. Gfinity lists them from the least respected to the most respected. Each group has families in it, and each family has its own notoriety.

GroupHow hard to join (Gfinity order)
Irish MobEasiest
Latin MafiaEasy
Italian MafiaMedium
Russian MafiaMedium
TriadHard
YakuzaHardest

The guides do not agree on the full order. The Nerd Stash ranks the Italian and Russian groups as harder to join than the Irish Mob or a local Triad. Watch the notoriety bar of each family in your game.

Which family should you pick first?

Pick a family with low notoriety. Gfinity says that these families are easier to join. A rejection is not a big loss. You can try an other family.

How do you ask a family to accept you?

Do a small job for them. Gfinity suggests to drive members or to do favors for them. Destructoid suggests to give them an alibi or to wait tables. Destructoid tells you not to ask them directly.

Do not ask with no crime history. Level Winner says that a family can beat you badly. Your Happiness and Health both go to zero.

Climb the ranks one step at a time. Destructoid gives this order. Many players call the top rank the Don. The guides call it Godfather or Godmother. Level Winner says that the name of the leader changes from family to family.

RankYour cut of crime money (Level Winner)
Associate10%
Soldier10%
Caporegime (Captain)25%
Underboss50%
Godfather or Godmother75%

How do you get promoted in the mafia?

  1. Commit crimes every year from the mafia menu. Level Winner says that a family member has better odds.
  2. Give the family its share of the money and the cars.
  3. Do every order that your boss gives you. Do not make excuses.
  4. Keep good relations with the other members of your crew.
  5. Wait for the promotion. GamerTweak says that your boss gets angry if you ask too early.

Level Winner suggests to earn $50,000 to $100,000 a year from crimes. Change your crimes often. The same crime again and again draws the police.

How do you get to the top faster?

Level Winner says that you can whack a superior, or give an other member a contract on them. This opens a place above you. It is a risk, because the family can hit back. Gfinity says that a rise to the top often waits for a leader to die or to go to prison.

What changes when you are the Godfather?

You keep 75% of your crime money. Gfinity says that you do not have to pay money to anyone, but you cannot recruit members or give orders. Level Winner says that you still answer to an unseen boss. Gfinity also warns that the job raises your blood pressure a lot.

  • Crimes. Your normal crimes move to the mafia menu. You choose how much of the money to give the family.
  • Orders. Gfinity says that the family sends you on crimes that you must do. Examples are to scare a witness or to collect money.
  • Extortion. Open the mafia menu, tap Crime, then tap Extortion. Destructoid says to ask each business for $25,000 each year.
  • Hits. Level Winner says that a contract hit proves that you are loyal. Gfinity says that a hit gives a lot of respect but draws the police.
  • Member actions. Level Winner lists Contract, Expose, Snitch, and Whack for each member of your family.

How does extortion work?

Demand money from a business. If the owner refuses, scare them, shake them down, or whack them. Level Winner suggests to scare an owner when their Fear is 75% or more. An owner can call the police if you fail.

What is a made member?

When you take the oath as a Soldier, you become a made member. Level Winner says that you then cannot leave the family. Think before you take the oath.

Gfinity says that there are two ways out. The police can catch you, or you can run away. In both cases, your old family can threaten you. Level Winner warns that to leave as a made member can kill you.

How do you become an informant?

The feds arrest you, then offer you a deal. Level Winner says that you can also choose the informant job from the Job menu. If you say no, you serve your sentence.

  1. Open Occupation, then Gang, then Gang Members. Gfinity gives this path.
  2. Pick a member and tap the evidence button. You can do this once a year for each member.
  3. Choose members of a high rank first. Level Winner says that they give more evidence.
  4. Stay close to the members. A low relationship bar stops them from spending time with you.
  5. Commit no crimes that get you caught. A new conviction ends the deal and sends you to prison.

Gfinity says that you usually get three years. Level Winner says four to five years. If you collect enough evidence, the game clears your record. You can then go into witness protection, which moves you to an other country. If you fail, you serve your full sentence.

  • Prison. Big crimes and hits draw the police. A failed informant deal ends in racketeering charges.
  • Death. A family can kill a made member who leaves. A failed whack on a superior can also start a fight.
  • Your family. Level Winner says that rival groups can kill your loved ones or your crew at random.
  • Beatings. Refuse an order, and the family can beat you or lower your standing.
  • Rats. An informant can join your crew as a friend. Use Expose on a member you suspect. A wrong guess can lead to violence.
  • Your karma. Gfinity says that the mafia path ends with a very low morality score. Read BitLife karma for what that means.

A mafia life also closes clean careers. For example, the law path to become a judge needs a clean record.

Ribbons

We found no ribbon for the mafia in the sources that we read. A crime life can still end with a crime ribbon, such as Scandalous, Jailbird, Thief, or Deadly. Our list of every BitLife ribbon gives the tips for each one.

Alphabet Mafia Challenge

Destructoid covered this weekly challenge in November 2024. The tasks were:

  • Be born in Italy
  • Come out as a member of the LGBTQ community
  • Join a Mafia family
  • Extort money from a CEO
  • Become the leader of a Mafia family

Destructoid says that this challenge needs the Mafia pack. For the CEO task, look for a business with the tag Small business. Ask for about $10,000.

King to Kingpin Challenge

The Nerd Stash says that the last task of this challenge was to become an Underboss. It covered the challenge in December 2021.

Both challenges are old. See the BitLife challenges list for the newer ones.

LifeSim is a free AI life sim in your browser and on iPhone. It is not BitLife. It has no mafia pack, no rank ladder, and no cheats console.

In LifeSim, you live one life day by day on a real map of Earth in 3D. The people have jobs, homes, and friends. They talk back in their own words and remember what you did. If you want to climb to Godfather and collect ribbons, BitLife fits you better.
