How Fear of the Dark affects your Sim

This trait gives your Sim 1 unique moodlet called Looming Dread. Looming Dread pushes your Sim toward the Scared emotion with a weight of 2. The emotion with the largest total weight sets your Sim's overall mood.

When Looming Dread triggers, it lasts for 4 hours, or 240 Sim minutes. The trait does not add any hidden skill multipliers, career pay bonuses, or moodlet replacements. Furthermore, 0 social or object interactions check for this specific trait.

Who gets the trait, conflicts, and cheats

Human Sims can get this trait at the Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder life stages. It conflicts with the Gloomy, Vampire, and Brave traits. Sims with any of those traits cannot have Fear of the Dark.

In normal play, the Investigate Weird Light interaction can give this trait to your Sim. You can also use cheats in Live mode without turning on testingcheats true.

Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C on PC or Cmd + Shift + C on Mac. Type traits.equip_trait trait_Fear_Dark to add the trait to your active Sim. Type traits.remove_trait trait_Fear_Dark to clear it right away.
