What are the right answers to the Conservationist chance cards in The Sims 4?

Sims 4 Conservationist chance cards: every answer

The Conservationist career has 13 chance cards. Here is every card, each choice, and what it can lead to, with its odds and its effect on job performance, from the game files. On 8 of them, one choice is best for job performance.

The Log Incident

A volunteer working with your Sim calls to say a fallen tree is blocking access to an important trail. It's probably small enough that a bit of rope and leverage can get it out of the way, but they wanted to get his/her advice. Should the volunteer try to move the tree themselves, or should professionals be called?

Best for job performance: Call a Logging Service.

Move It Themselves

  • 50%: The volunteer called back less than an hour later, saying the tree was way easier to move than they'd thought. Easy peasy! (job performance +7)
  • 50%: The volunteer called back some time later in the day. They pulled their back and angrily wondered why they ever listened to your Sim... He/She wasn't there and had no idea how big the tree was! (job performance −10)

Call a Logging Service

  • 50%: The logging company arrived later that day and took a chainsaw to the fallen tree. After clearing it out, they even offered to take the wood to a local woodworker for free! (job performance +7)
  • 50%: The logging company called back a few hours later, saying the job was bigger than expected and, of course, more expensive. At least it's done with... (no job performance change)

Where Did It Go?

Your Sim can't find his/her soil testing kit anywhere. He/She could have sworn it was where he/she left it... Could it be...? Sabotage?! After looking for hours, your Sim is running out of time. He/She needs to run a sample before his/her boss starts asking about it!

Fudge the Test Results

  • 50%: Your Sim's boss totally bought it. The numbers he/she gave were within the normal ranges, and was probably better data than if he/she had actually run the numbers! Probably! (job performance +7)
  • 50%: Your Sim's boss called him/her out on the suspicious report. Submitting duplicate test results with a new name was just a little too obvious. On top of it all, the boss found out he/she lost the testing kit! It'll take some time to regain trust. (job performance −10)

Fess Up

  • 50%: Your Sim's boss was surprisingly understanding of the situation. They gave him/her a new testing kit and extended the deadline, but warned him/her not to let it happen again. (no job performance change)
  • 50%: Your Sim's boss was very frustrated at the loss of the equipment. These things aren't cheap! Your Sim received a brutal scolding. The boss will probably be less likely to trust him/her with important tasks from now on. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)

Enthusing a Class

Your Sim has been invited to give a talk at the local school on wildlife and conservation. The teacher asked for it to be as exciting and informational as possible. As it just so happens, your Sim has been fostering an endangered plant in a pot for the last few days. It might be risky to move the plant, but the kids would love it.

Take the Plant to Class

  • 50%: The kids in the class were enthralled with the real-life endangered plant. They all loved it and pledged to protect the environment! (job performance +25)
  • 50%: Being children, they all wanted to touch the endangered plant. Several leaves fell off during and after the class. Your Sim hopes it can recover... (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)

Go to Class Without the Plant

  • 50%: Your Sim's natural charisma shined through, telling stories of conservation and how it can help the local communities. The kids were fascinated, and the teacher even thanked him/her with a small gift! (+§150)
  • 50%: Bored children paid your Sim no attention, and the class devolved into chaos. The teacher won't be inviting him/her again... (moodlet: No One Listened)

Problems Granted

Your Sim just learned that his/her grant proposal for an exciting ecosystem research project was rejected. He/She can appeal the decision, but the best way to get the grant is to provide evidence of a threatened species within the ecosystem in question. Based on initial findings, this area should be the nesting grounds of an endangered migratory bird, but your Sim doesn't have concrete evidence yet.

Best for job performance: Pay for a Survey Team.

Pay for a Survey Team

  • 50%: Trusting in the data, your Sim led a small team of conservationists on a thorough investigation. It actually didn't take long to track down bird nests and capture photos of the endangered species. Grant obtained! (job performance +7; +§889)
  • 50%: Your Sim and the budget team he/she put together weren't able to find any evidence of the bird. No appeal and down a few Simoleons, he/she gives up this time. (no job performance change)

Appeal Without Evidence

  • 50%: What a surprise! Your Sim's proposal was accepted after a second review. It seems the kid of one of the higher ups loves exotic birds and swayed the decision. (+§889)
  • 50%: No luck. The data is inconclusive, and there have been no recorded sightings of any endangered wildlife in that ecosystem. Your Sim was even advised to better prepare his grant proposals in the future and stop wasting their time. How embarrassing! (moodlet: Flubbed Attempt)

Corporate Consultation

Your Sim was contacted by a small industrial company suffering from bad press about their environmental footprint. They have an interesting proposal, and are looking for a consultant to sign off on their plans before they make a public campaign of it. Looking over their plans, your Sim finds some inaccurate data, but his/her contact wants to hurry the deal and offers a neat sum to overlook the inaccuracies.

Best for job performance: Insist on Adjusting Their Plans.

Insist on Adjusting Their Plans

  • 50%: With his/her power of persuasion, your Sim was able to convince the company's upper management to truly care about their impact. Environmental consciousness was even added as one of the company's pillars! (job performance +25; moodlet: Spreading Awareness)
  • 50%: "If you won't, we'll find someone else!" your Sim was shown the door and blacklisted, never receiving another consultation request from this circle of industry. Don't they realize they're harming the planet?! (moodlet: No One Listened)

Take the Bribe

  • 50%: The plans are still relatively beneficial for the environment, so there's no harm in humoring them for a little side cash. Your Sim just hopes this won't come back and bite him/her later. (+§1,067)
  • 50%: It went well for a while, but once the press heard about the incorrect information, the campaign was ruthlessly ripped apart. With nowhere to turn, the company tried to pin all the blame on your Sim. Better lay low for a while. (job performance −30; +§1,067; moodlet: Work Annoyance)

Foreign Affairs

The government of a distant country contacted your Sim's office today. It appears they've promised a campaign to preserve their nation's forests. Happy to help out, your Sim signed on to consult on their plans. The government is pushing for a proposal draft as fast as possible, but your Sim isn't very familiar with that region. It's proving too difficult to work quickly without the relevant information.

Best for job performance: Ask Coworkers for Help.

Ask Coworkers for Help

  • 50%: The team rallied around your Sim, believing that conservation isn't just a local activity - it's a global one! Together, they did the required research and managed to submit a proposal by the end of the day. (job performance +25)
  • 50%: Nobody else was familiar with that region either, and the team had their hands full with their own work. Looks like that proposal isn't going to get done quickly at all! Your Sim's contact is a bit annoyed, but agreed to wait until it's fully complete. (job performance −10)

Copy a Similar Project

  • 50%: Luckily, regional differences did not have a great effect on the campaign plan, and your Sim was able to fill in any blanks with educated guesses. He/She managed to turn around a proposal by the end of the day, much to the delight of his/her contact. (job performance +25)
  • 50%: Your Sim tried his/her best, but the foreign government spotted the inaccuracies immediately. They politely thanked him/her for the work, but decided to move on and consult someone else. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)

The Protest Incident

Your Sim just received a very troubling phone call. The anti-environmentalist group "Unenthuse About Conservation" - who advocates for turning national parks into vacation homes - has started chaining off trails and dirt roads to block foot traffic. Even worse, it seems they received a permit to gather and even booked the grounds ahead of time! Your Sim's field scientists can't get to their research grounds, and visitors are getting caught in the protest. Something must be done!

Best for job performance: Call the Local Authorities.

Grab the Bolt Cutters

  • 50%: Your Sim charged forth with his/her bolt cutters, a conservationist on a mission. Intimidated by his/her purposeful stride, the protesters scattered. Soon after, the blockades were cleaned up and the trails reopened, and visitors laud your Sim as a hero. (job performance +7)
  • 50%: Not only were the chains too thick for his/her cutters, your Sim was caught in a shouting match with the anti-environmentalists. What a day... (moodlet: Stressful Workday)

Call the Local Authorities

  • 50%: Your Sim knew just who to call. The park rangers unleashed their secret special forces, breaking up the protestors and clearing the blockades in no time. They even performed a thorough sweep to clean any trash left behind. (job performance +25)
  • 50%: Since the group has a permit and booked the grounds, the local sheriff told your Sim that there was nothing they could do. Helpless, he/she was forced to wait as the protest continued on for days. (job performance −10)

Against the Storm

While your Sim's team was out on a sea survey run, dark clouds started creeping over the horizon. It's early enough that the crew thinks they can circumvent it, but the winds are already picking up. It's up to your Sim to make the call: turn back or try to sail around the storm.

Best for job performance: Sail Around.

Turn Back

  • 50%: Your Sim and his/her crew darted across the raging waters with the storm hot on their tail. Once they reached land, they looked back at just how large the storm was and let out a collective breath of relief. (job performance +7)
  • 50%: Unfortunately, the storm was headed straight in their path back to shore. The crew tried their best to outrun it, but the boat was not built for speed. Thrashed about, they lost some equipment but, luckily, made it back to land in one piece. (no job performance change)

Sail Around

  • 50%: Referencing weather maps, your Sim guided the crew around the storm deftly. They were quickly in safe waters, and were able to continue their studies. Crisis averted! (job performance +25)
  • 50%: The winds changed half-way through the course correction and threw the ship completely off course. Your Sim and his/her team ended up lost at sea for half the day. When they finally made it back to familiar territory, the crew begged to go home. (job performance −10)

Young Conservationist

A child from town showed up at the office today with a covered wheelbarrow. She took the cover off to reveal an adult sea turtle she found on the beach. The poor animal seems sick, but your Sim doesn't have the time to properly care for it. The child wants to take the turtle in and asks to be taught what to do.

Best for job performance: Let the Child Care for the Turtle.

Let the Child Care for the Turtle

  • 50%: The child turned out to be very responsible and the turtle recovered quickly. It was a sad farewell, but the child maturely let the animal back into the wild. She now visits your Sim often and wants to be a marine biologist when she grows up! (job performance +25)
  • 50%: Your Sim should've known to talk to the parents first. Now he/she has to deal with an angry mother, a crying child, and a still sick turtle. Troublesome... (moodlet: Stressful Workday)

Release the Turtle, It's Fully Grown

  • 50%: Your Sim knows that sea turtles have few natural enemies once they've reached adulthood. The animal is only dealing with a minor affliction, so releasing it was the best course of action. (job performance +7)
  • 50%: The turtle's illness didn't seem serious, so your Sim released it. Unfortunately, the child didn't seem to think this was the correct action and threw a tantrum. What a headache... (moodlet: Stressful Workday)

Documentary Diction

Your Sim has been approached by a budding media company to help write their next big documentary. Working directly with the film's producers, he/she has the freedom to make it as entertaining or serious as he/she likes. The only criteria is that it remains informative and accurate.

Best for job performance: Fill It with Humor.

Fill It with Humor

  • 50%: The executive staff loved the script! It's funny, full of information, and even tells a story. People are going to love (and learn from) this documentary once it's finished! (job performance +7; +§992)
  • 50%: After a lengthy, quiet review, the filmmakers get back to your Sim and suggest he/she stick to his/her day job, which is marine biology -- not comedy. (moodlet: Embarrassed from Work)

Use a Very Dramatic Tone

  • 50%: After he/she delivered a dense, dramatic script, the producers told your Sim that this is exactly what they were looking for. They have a fantastic voice-over actress lined up that loves this type of work! (job performance +7; +§992)
  • 50%: Once the producers woke up from their script-induced nap, they told your Sim that it's just too dry. There's too much information to process, and no narrative to latch onto. Best sleep they've had in a while, though. (job performance −10)

Rising Star of Conservation

While out in the field one day, your Sim was approached by a film crew! Apparently, they're part of a very famous studio and are scouting for up-and-coming conservationists to feature, one of whom is your Sim! He/She would have a whole episode dedicated to himself/herself, showing off his/her projects and progress. This is a great opportunity to showcase your Sim's knowledge and step into the limelight. However, the camera crew will need to close off his/her research grounds for filming. Should your Sim participate in the filming?

Do the Episode

  • 100%: Your Sim nailed it! They took a lot of B-roll footage of him/her doing "conservation-y" things, too. His/Her episode was very popular, but received some backlash online from people claiming that he/she is just an actor/actress. How dare they! (job performance −30; +§568; moodlet: Work Annoyance)

Decline the Offer

  • 100%: The potential research data lost while the areas are closed off isn't worth the 15 minutes of fame. Your Sim politely declines and asks to be informed when the full series goes out. Disappointed, but respecting his/her wishes, the film crew leaves. (no job performance change)

Conservation Coalition

Your Sim has been approached by the government to be the the face of a multi-corporation project promoting sustainability and recycling! They've been keeping tabs on his/her career, and think that he/she is the best for the job. The media blitz isn't just good P.R. for the companies, it's good for your Sim and the environment. It's win, win, win! This is a good chance to become a veritable mascot for the cause, and your Sim will leap ahead in his/her career as Chief Sustainability Officer of this initiative. Is he/she ready to give up what he/she's been working for up until now, or will he/she continue working with his/her current team?

Become the Face of Conservation

  • 100%: It's a hit! Your Sim's face is all over on billboards, commercials, and websites. He/She is getting a lot of attention, but attention to the environment is what really matters. Now if only people will stop calling him/her a sellout... (no job performance change)

Continue with Current Team

  • 100%: It might have been a good opportunity to get the word out there, but they wouldn't be your Sim's words. Not willing to sacrifice all of the experience and knowledge he/she'd built up, he/she declined and continued operating with his/her trusted crew. (no job performance change)

Whale of a Time

A world-famous aquarium has announced that they are releasing a whale that they've been rehabilitating. A televised event has been planned, and they're asking your Sim to host the release! He/She would be on screen with the whale from the aquarium to the ocean, explaining the process and providing interesting tidbits about marine life. This will be covered by every major news station! This is your Sim's chance to show the world his/her passion, and hopefully light a flame in others to care for the oceans. He/She has to provide for his/her own travel and living expenses, though, and it won't be cheap. Should your Sim lead the celebrations?

Release the Whale

  • 100%: The epic 4 hour long special featuring your Sim and the journey of Simu the Whale excited and delighted viewers. The special was edited with dramatic music and cliffhanger commercial breaks. Simu absolutely stole the show, but your Sim doesn't mind. It's all for conservation after all! (no job performance change)

Watch It on TV

  • 100%: News of the event hiked the prices of everything up to ludicrous levels. It just isn't worth it, and your Sim isn't in this career for the glamour anyway. The environment won't be saved with the release of one whale! (no job performance change)

The odds are the game's: each result of a choice has the same weight unless a skill or trait test changes it, as noted. The effect in brackets is what the result's loot does. "Best for job performance" is the choice with the highest expected change, shown only when every chance on the card is known.
