What are the right answers to the Law chance cards in The Sims 4?
Sims 4 Law chance cards: every answer
The Law career has 6 chance cards. Here is every card, each choice, and what it can lead to, with its odds and its effect on job performance, from the game files. On 3 of them, one choice is best for job performance.
Unjust Allegation
Your Sim's boss confronts him/her and starts yelling about a document being late. This isn't the first time his/her hot-headed boss has blamed him/her for something he/she didn't do. Your Sim knows it'll blow over soon, but it's starting to get old. Should he/she ride out the storm or defend himself/herself?
Best for job performance: Let it Go.
Defend Himself/Herself
- 50%: A few words into his/her defense, your Sim catches the look on his/her boss's face and it's quite clear they don't appreciate being argued with. During a pause, the boss interjects that this won't be forgotten in your Sim's upcoming performance review. (job performance −10)
- 50%: After defending himself/herself, your Sim's boss recognizes the mistake and apologizes for the behavior. They thank him/her for standing up for himself/herself, pointing out that the grit he/she displayed is exactly what's needed in their law office. (job performance +7)
Let it Go
- 50%: Everyone goes back to work, but your Sim is now suffering from a bit of a crisis of confidence. He/She wishes he/she had stood up for himself/herself, and now wonders how long he/she'll be able to cut it in the law profession if he/she can't even defend himself/herself! (moodlet: Stressful Workday)
- 50%: Your Sim's boss later realizes the mistake and returns to apologize for the bad behavior. In addition to apologies, the boss (perhaps to make themselves feel better) profusely praises your Sim for the good work he/she's been producing! (job performance +7)
Billable Hours
Your Sim's law firm has an unreasonably high billable hour requirement. He/She must choose between spending every waking hour in the office to hit the requirements or fall short but have a life outside of work... unless there's a way to have both? Should your Sim keep his/her hours accurate but fall short of the requirement, or should he/she fake some numbers to inflate his/her timesheets?
Keep Them Accurate
- 50%: Your Sim falls short of the billable hour requirement and is summarily chastised by his/her disappointed boss. That promotion he/she was hoping for is just a bit more out of reach now. (job performance −10)
- 50%: Your Sim misses reaching the billable requirement, but so does everyone else! When his/her boss comes by to praise his/her hard work despite the miss, he/she suggests that the requirements are too aggressive, and his/her boss agrees to reduce billables for the future. (job performance +7)
Inflate the Numbers
- 50%: Maybe an untrained eye would have missed the exaggeration of hours but not your Sim's boss. After the infraction is discovered and made public, your Sim's standing at the company takes a bit hit, and it's a small miracle that he/she isn't fired! (job performance −30)
- 50%: Your Sim's boss is astonished that he/she is able to reach these requirements while still leaving the office at a reasonable hour. The only explanation is that he/she must be putting in extra time each night at home! Your Sim's outstanding work 'ethic' is well rewarded! (job performance +25)
A Risky Client
A prospective client approaches your Sim, hoping to hire him/her for a case. It seems like a straightforward win, which would provide a much-needed windfall for the firm, but something about the client doesn't sit right with your Sim. Should he/she take or refuse the case?
Best for job performance: Take the Case.
Take the Case
- 50%: Your Sim should have trusted his/her gut! The client has been fabricating records to improve his chances of winning the case. Now, not only is the case going to be a loss on your Sim's record, but the client has no means or intention of paying for the firm's services. With the firm's financial situation going from bad to worse, your Sim is berated for accepting the risky client in the first place. (job performance −10)
- 50%: It appears that the client was just nervous and, in fact, had a solid case. Your Sim serves as lead council on the case and delivers an effortless win. The financial rough patch for the firm is now a thing of the past and everyone there knows that your Sim is undoubtedly responsible for the company's turnaround. (job performance +25)
Drop the Client
- 50%: Your Sim sends the client away, but the case turns out to be an easy win for another firm. Without the payday, your Sim's firm is struggling to keep everyone employed, making an already stressful work environment even worse. (moodlet: Stressful Workday)
- 50%: Your Sim's hunch was well-founded. The case was built on lies that the client composed! After being rejected by your Sim, the client went on to hire another law firm, who are embroiled in the scandal and under an ethics investigation by the Board of Lawyers. The partners at your Sim's company are pleased that he/she managed to steer them away from this disaster and reward him/her appropriately. (job performance +7)
I Sentence You to...
The defendant stands accused of being The Sapphire Scoundrel, responsible for a string of jewel store heists. Based on eyewitness testimony your Sim found somewhat questionable, the jury has found the defendant to be guilty. Should the court hereby sentence the defendant to a hefty prison term or a more lenient probation?
Prison
- 50%: Shortly after the defendant is locked up, another jewel heist is committed. The perpetrator is apprehended and it turns out to be... the EYEWITNESS! The defendant was clearly wrongly convicted and the harsh sentence at the trial will be a stain on your Sim's record. (job performance −30)
- 50%: Not long after sentencing, new evidence comes to light that further proves the defendant's guilt. Your Sim made the right decision, and jewelers can finally rest easy now that the infamous Sapphire Scoundrel is behind bars! (job performance +25)
Probation
- 50%: Not long after sentencing another jewel heist is committed! The defendant is caught red-handed, but not before causing thousands in property damage. If your Sim hadn't be so lenient, the infamous Sapphire Scoundrel would have already been behind bars! The public backlash is enough to stall your Sim's career temporarily. (job performance −30)
- 50%: Shortly after the defendant is released, another jewel heist is committed! The perpetrator is apprehended and it turns out to be... the EYEWITNESS! The defendant's probation is lifted, the true Sapphire Scoundrel is now behind bars, and your Sim is praised for his/her sound judgement! (job performance +25)
Lost Evidence
Your Sim's case is rock-solid. His/Her client is innocent, and he/she has the evidence to prove it! Only... where did all that evidence go? Your Sim knows with certainty that his/her client has been wrongly accused but stands to go to prison for a long time without the evidence. Should he/she replace the missing evidence with a fake or be honest with the court?
Best for job performance: Tell the Court.
Fake Evidence
- 50%: After faking the lost evidence, the real thing turns up. Now, with two identical items, the court's asking a lot of questions and holding an ethics investigation. Your Sim is a nervous wreck! (moodlet: Stressful Workday)
- 50%: Your Sim is able to sneak the fake evidence into the case file with no one the wiser. This is a huge ethics violation, but your Sim will take solace in the fact that he/she kept an innocent client out of prison. (job performance +7)
Tell the Court
- 50%: While the court appreciates your Sim's honesty, there is nothing they can do without the evidence but send an innocent person to prison! During the closing moments of the trial, the evidence is discovered, having been mislabeled and put in the wrong case file by court workers. Your Sim's client is justly acquitted, but not before your Sim is severely rattled by the stressful day. (moodlet: Stressful Workday)
- 50%: Without the strong evidence, your Sim has to work even harder to prove the case. Showing great ambition and tenacity, your Sim is able to persist and win despite the missing evidence and keep his/her innocent client out of prison! His/Her firm recognizes him/her for a staying ethical in the face of adversity. (job performance +25)
Unethical Partner
Scott has been a great partner at your Sim's firm; he brings in a lot of business and has far more wins than losses on his record. Recently, your Sim realized that Scott's been cutting corners, overbilling, and making decisions against the wishes of his clients. Without his contributions the future of the firm may be in jeopardy, but what he's doing is against the oath of lawyers and could cause both your Sim and Scott to lose their law licenses. Should your Sim confront Scott or look the other way?
Confront Scott
- 50%: Scott is highly offended and, in a fit of rage, tries to storm out of the office. While stomping towards the exit, he slips on some loose papers and falls. Now he's using his 'work-related injury' to sue the firm, and your Sim is being held responsible for this debacle! (job performance −30)
- 50%: Scott admits that personal issues in his life have been causing him a lot of stress and that his actions were just his way of trying to help the firm succeed. He didn't realize the harm he was causing, but with your Sim's help, Scott is actively working to fix his mistakes and change his ways. The firm could have lost everything, but your Sim saved the day and is well rewarded for it! (job performance +25)
Look the Other Way
- 50%: After one too many mistakes, an angry client submits a formal complaint to the Board of Lawyers regarding Scott's poor ethical choices. Instead of focusing on his/her current caseload, your Sim has to go into full damage control mode. Now the future of the firm is at risk, and your Sim is worried about a premature end to his/her once promising career. (job performance −30)
- 50%: Scott continues to bring in a lot of business, and his work ethic greatly improves. Your Sim is glad he/she didn't interfere, as it seems like it was a temporary bout of stress for Scott. The continued good business improves the boss's mood toward everyone. (job performance +7)
The odds are the game's: each result of a choice has the same weight unless a skill or trait test changes it, as noted. The effect in brackets is what the result's loot does. "Best for job performance" is the choice with the highest expected change, shown only when every chance on the card is known.
