What are the right answers to the Engineer chance cards in The Sims 4?

Sims 4 Engineer chance cards: every answer

The Engineer career has 6 chance cards. Here is every card, each choice, and what it can lead to, with its odds and its effect on job performance, from the game files. On 1 of them, one choice is best for job performance.

Fake It 'Til You Make It

Your Sim has been impressing his/her boss with his/her ability to adapt quickly and produce clean work. With this growing trust, your Sim has been given a task way above his/her paygrade. With minimal understanding of the task, should your Sim try to complete the work on their own or ask for help?

Best for job performance: Ask for Help.

Go Solo

  • 50%: Angry and disappointed, your Sim's boss wonders why he/she didn't ask questions about how to properly complete the task. This arrogant move hasn't paid off for your Sim. (job performance −10)
  • 50%: Your Sim nervously submits his/her work for review to the boss. As they pour over the work, a smile grows on their face. "Keep producing work at this level without my help and you'll find yourself on a fast track for promotion!" (job performance +15)

Ask for Help

  • 50%: Your Sim asked the necessary questions but neglected to take note of his/her bosses instructions and explanations. The completed work was still incorrect and your Sim's boss decided to ask another engineer to fix it. The boss will probably be less likely to trust him/her with important tasks from now on. (moodlet: Stressful Workday)
  • 50%: Your Sim's boss appreciates the thoughtful questions regarding the complex task. After all, it's faster to ask appropriate questions and complete the task correctly than to hazard a guess and have to start all over. (job performance +15)

Help or Hinder

Your Sim noticed that a rival employee has made a huge mistake in their work. An error like this would surely set the opposition back and improve your Sim's chances for a promotion. Should your Sim let his/her colleague fail or help fix the mistake for the sake of the work?

Fix It

  • 50%: Your Sim did such a superb job with the fix but the rival employee took all the credit and received great praise and an undeserved promotion. If that wasn't enough, your Sim's boss suggested he/she try to produce work like his/her rival. (job performance −10)
  • 50%: Your Sim's boss was pleased with the resulting work and his/her contribution didn't go unnoticed. Your Sim is a true team player and his/her boss won't forget it. (job performance +15)

Let Rival Fail

  • 50%: A mistake like this puts the whole engineering team in jeopardy. Your Sim's boss is disappointed that he/she and his/her rival colleague didn't check each other's work. This whole fiasco could have been avoided! (job performance −10)
  • 50%: Your Sim's rival really dropped the ball and someone responsible and trustworthy will need to help clean up the mess. Your Sim's boss is positively delighted with his/her eagerness and enthusiasm to fix the issue! (job performance +15)

Friend of a Friend

Your Sim was approached by his/her boss's boss, inquiring about a job opportunity for their son. They're wondering if he/she can bring the son onto the team and mentor him. Your Sim has never met his/her boss's boss's son but trusts that they wouldn't ask if he wasn't qualified. Should your Sim immediately hire him or insist on an interview?

Hire Him

  • 50%: Your Sim didn't vet the son and it was a huge blunder! The son isn't just inexperienced, he's incompetent! No one will blame the son so your Sim's mentorship abilities are being criticized. This doesn't bode well for a future at the company. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)
  • 50%: The gamble paid off! The son has been a dedicated and hard-working member of the team. With your Sim as his mentor, both of their careers are on a positive trajectory! This gesture will not be forgotten! (job performance +25)

Interview

  • 50%: It turns out that the son has no experience and isn't really interested in working there. After rejecting the son, the boss is furious and holds your Sim personally responsible for not taking a chance on him. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)
  • 50%: It turns out that the son has no experience so he was rejected by your Sim. The boss pulled some strings and got the son a job at another engineering firm and rumor has it that he single-handedly caused a major project to fail. When your Sim's boss found, they were relieved and grateful for the near miss. (job performance +25)

What Could Go Wrong?

The investors of your Sim's multi-million Simoleon project are growing impatient. After several safety snafus and slipped deadlines, word's going around the engineering team about cancellation of the project! There are many tests that should still be run but time's running out. Should your Sim delay further for more testing or fast track the product release?

Streamline Safety Procedures

  • 50%: Your Sim was too afraid of losing the project and didn't consider the big picture. Shortly after the release of the project, there was a major malfunction that resulted in numerous injuries and piles of lawsuits. The future of the company is in jeopardy! (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)
  • 50%: It was a big risk, but it paid off! The project release was a massive success and the company holds your Sim directly responsible. The future looks bright for such a talented (and gutsy) engineer! (job performance +25)

Full Safety Procedures

  • 50%: No risk, no reward. The project was cancelled and the company has lost faith in your Sim leadership abilities. It'll take a lot of hard work for him/her to build back the trust and responsibility that was lost... (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)
  • 50%: The testing was worth it! Your Sim discovered a malfunction in the cooling system. If the project was released, there would have been a catastrophic disaster! Your Sim saved countless lives and prevented the company from losing millions of Simoleons in damages! (job performance +25)

Planned Obsolescence?

Management is demanding the use of non-durable materials to 'pass the savings to the user' but your Sim believes this is a planned obsolescence scheme. Should he/she insist on more durable materials or follow management instructions?

Insist

  • 50%: With pricier parts and lackluster launch sales numbers, the company has been forced to downsize the engineering team. Your Sim has been spared from the layoff but many of his/her close colleagues weren't so lucky. Your Sim is left with ruined friendships and a stain on his/her employment record. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)
  • 50%: A competitor used the cheap materials that your Sim's company was pushing for. Their devices are exploding, resulting in minor burns and major lawsuits. Management recognizes and appreciates your Sim for saving them from a similar fiasco. (job performance +25)

Follow Instructions

  • 50%: After begrudgingly using inferior parts, product reviews have suffered, sales numbers are far below expectations, and it's rumored that the company is being investigated for their shady business practices. (moodlet: Stressful Workday)
  • 50%: The profit margins are where they need to be but your Sim doesn't feel proud of the product he/she released. Maybe the cash bonus from the company will help ease his/her woes. (+§1,000)

Corporate Espionage

Your Sim has been approached by an anonymous source and offered access to a competitor's product that has yet to be announced. Should he/she reverse engineer the product and beat the competition to market or report the proposal to the authorities?

Report it

  • 50%: Upon investigation, it was discovered that your Sim's boss was the anonymous source. Now the company as a whole is being investigated, freezing all project assets for an indefinite period of time. Until the mess is over, your Sim is working on low-level assignments. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)
  • 50%: The company is grateful to have such an honest employee. Your Sim has exhibited great integrity and has been trusted more responsibility. (job performance +25)

Reverse Engineer

  • 50%: The company caught on to your Sim's plans. He/She would be fired but, for fear of word reaching the public, your Sim will keep his/her job but he/she has been put on disciplinary review. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance)
  • 50%: After dismantling the product, your Sim was able to use his/her experience to quickly improve on it and rush it to market. After putting everything on the line to make millions for the company, your Sim was given a respectable bonus for his/her efforts. (+§1,000)

The odds are the game's: each result of a choice has the same weight unless a skill or trait test changes it, as noted. The effect in brackets is what the result's loot does. "Best for job performance" is the choice with the highest expected change, shown only when every chance on the card is known.
