What are the right answers to the Handyperson chance cards in The Sims 4?
Sims 4 Handyperson chance cards: every answer
The Handyperson career has 9 chance cards. Here is every card, each choice, and what it can lead to, with its odds and its effect on job performance, from the game files. On 6 of them, one choice is best for job performance.
Bodge Job
Just as your Sim is about to take his/her daily break, a call comes in from a neighboring unit with a leaky toilet. Apparently your Sim didn't do good a job on tightening those pesky loose bolts! Your Sim makes his/her way over to chat with the angry neighbor and takes a look at the damage. Confused, your Sim pats down his/her front pocket and feels an immediate wave of embarrassment. Your Sim forgot to replace the bolts completely!
Cover It Up
- 50%: Unfortunately the neighbor isn't buying what your Sim is selling. Defeated and ashamed for trying to put one over on the neighbor, your Sim apologizes and finally completes this task correctly and slinks away. (job performance −10)
- 50%: When the angry neighbor looks the other way, your Sim is able to retrieve the missing bolts from his/her pocket and make quick work to put things as they should be. That was a close one! (job performance +7; moodlet: Close One)
Come Clean
- 50%: What is this? Amateur hour? The neighbor is pretty ticked off (and very wet from toilet water) that they let the insults fly in your Sim's direction. Luckily the fix was fast and your Sim was able to leave in a hurry, but not before getting pummeled with some uncomfortable consequences. (job performance −20; moodlet: Embarrassed at Work)
- 50%: The scowling neighbor quickly changes appearance from angry to understanding, then busts out in laughter when your Sim shows them that the bolts are still in his/her pocket. No harm, no foul, just a little water on the floor to deal with after fixing the mistake. (job performance +7; moodlet: Honest!)
Right Tool for the Right Job
Nothing beats the open road, breathing in all of that fresh air! It's always nice to step out of the normal day to day and go on a job out of town. Well, that would be the case if your Sim remembered to properly pack his/her tools this morning. It's going to be hard to complete this task missing crucial tools for the job.
Hack It
- 50%: You know what they say, you can't fit a square peg into a round hole. Well in this case, you can't fix a sink with a corkscrew! Your Sim should have known that this would never work. Now there is extra damage to deal with and lost time to make up. (job performance −10)
- 50%: Where there's a will, there's a way! Your Sim comes up with a solution, relying on his/her quick thinking, creativity and just a little luck. Who knew that your Sim could be so resourceful? (job performance +7; skill: Handiness)
Delay the Job
- 50%: Unfortunately this was an urgent job and the lost time meant some very angry messages blowing up your Sim's phone. Sigh. Grabbing the missing tools and heading back to the site took longer than expected, making this mistake a costly one. (job performance −20; moodlet: Stressful Workday)
- 50%: At the end of the day, a job well done is a well done job. Your Sim figured that trying to hack up some half baked solution could work, but it's always best to do the job right the first time. Luckily urgency wasn't a factor and the job was completed relatively quickly, even with the lost time of heading back to retrieve the missing tools. (no job performance change)
Night Market Rescue
The wind and rain can be pretty punishing, especially to the businesses here in Tomarang. It appears that one of our local vendors is desperate for help, as their market stall is on the brink of disaster! It's still coming down pretty hard out there and may not be safe for your Sim to offer help at this time.
Best for job performance: Tough It Out.
Tough It Out
- 50%: It was a bad idea to tempt the angry weather gods today! It was one unfortunate event after another: It started with a mangled umbrella, then a muddy fall, and ending with a banged up knee; all before arriving at the market stall. At least the vendor was kind enough to bandage your Sim's busted knee. (job performance +7; moodlet: Handy Injury)
- 50%: What's a little bad weather when businesses are at stake? Your Sim decides to brave the storm and lend a helping hand to repair the market stall before it can be hit with more damage. The vendor is so pleased with your Sim's bravery that they thank him/her with some extra Simoleons and shelter from the storm. (job performance +15; +§100)
Take It Easy
- 50%: Though it was a difficult decision, your Sim decided that it's just too risky to brave the storm right now. Unfortunately this resulted in more damage to the market stall and a very angry vendor calling to complain. (job performance −20)
- 50%: Your Sim reluctantly declines to weather the storm and promises to lend a helping hand when things clear up. Surprisingly the vendor takes this in stride and understands that safety is paramount, and even pays in advance for your Sim's services. (+§100)
Tree Trauma
Your Sim heads out to a beautiful forest beyond the Koh Suhpa neighborhood to see what the next job entails. Your Sim meets with a Sim who is requesting his/her expertise concerning a tree that has been threatening to fall for quite some time. It becomes pretty clear that this job will require a lot of skill to expertly prevent the tree from falling and damaging whatever is in its path. As your Sim looks around and inspects the site, it looks as though some of the greenery surrounding the tree resemble a rare and protected plant species. Things just got more complicated.
Best for job performance: Conserve First.
Conserve First
- 50%: Your Sim realizes that he/she may be in over his/her head on this one! Unfortunately one wrong pull of a branch from your Sim brought the whole tree down, destroying everything in its path, including the rare plants that your Sim desperately wanted to save. (job performance −10; moodlet: Bodge Job)
- 50%: With a steady hand and an expert eye, your Sim is able to remove the dead and decaying branches that were pulling the tree to its demise. With a little added support system, and some hard work, this tree is saved and looking better than ever! As a bonus, no plants were harmed during this mission. (job performance +15)
Plants Not A Priority
- 50%: Time is money and your Sim knows that if this job isn't done quickly, he/she will be in even more hot water. Sadly your Sim could have been more careful working around the rare plants, as after the job was done, your Sim noticed a pretty large patch of trampled greenery. Not a good look for your Sim. (job performance −20; moodlet: Embarrassed at Work)
- 50%: While these plants may have looked rare, on closer inspection your Sim realizes that they are indeed just common weeds. Luckily too, since your Sim wasn't very careful about keeping them safe. (job performance +7)
Sunken Toolbox
Fresh air, tranquil waters, and the sound of your Sim screaming into the open landscape. Why the screaming? Well, your Sim accidentally knocked his/her entire toolbox into the river, causing some of its contents to spill into the depths below.
Best for job performance: Dive to Retrieve.
Dive to Retrieve
- 50%: The river is proving to be a more challenging foe than anticipated. Unfortunately as your Sim attempts to dive for the tools, bad foot placement causes your Sim to slip on some slimy rocks, and then fall face first into the treacherous terrain. Looks like replacing the tools is the only option here. Too bad your Sim realized that a little too late. (moodlet: Sore from Work)
- 50%: A little water isn't going to stop your Sim from completing this job! he/she may be a little wet (and a little smelly) but your Sim is able to pull through, find the missing tools, and get the job done. (job performance +15)
Leave Them Submerged
- 50%: Your Sim peers into the watery abyss that has swallowed up the toolbox and its contents. Well, it was high time to buy new tools anyway, though they will be pretty costly to replace. (job performance −20; moodlet: Embarrassed at Work)
- 50%: Your Sim decides to push on and finish the job without the required tools. Your Sim is not very happy with what he/she accomplished, and even more dissatisfied with having to buy new tools. (job performance −10)
Quote Confusion
75 plus 29... carry the 1... This job is proving harder to estimate for your Sim than he/she had anticipated. On one hand, setting the price higher will account for any extra time spent that your Sim can't plan for. On the other hand, quoting too low will set your Sim back in time and money.
Best for job performance: Underquote.
Underquote
- 50%: The client raises one eyebrow and busts out laughing when hearing your Sim's quoted amount. "I thought you were experienced?" Well, your Sim certainly isn't laughing at that one. (moodlet: Embarrassed at Work)
- 50%: The job was a bit more work than expected. The client was happy to save money, even though it meant your Sim had to put in some unpaid hours. At least they put in a good word to your Sim's boss and is looking forward to working together again in the future. Your Sim also learned something new, too! (job performance +15; skill: Handiness)
Overquote
- 50%: Your Sim should have taken more care with his/her estimate because the client is very unhappy and unwilling to pay the full amount. It's not the first time that your Sim has been accused of being dishonest, but hopefully it will be the last. (+§100; moodlet: Dishonest!)
- 50%: If you want quality work, then you need to be willing to pay for it. Your Sim knows his/her worth, and the client is willing to pay extra for his/her skills. (job performance +7; +§200)
Handyperson vs. Handyperson... Fight
Like any occupation, rivals are just another typical aspect of the trade. While on the job your Sim bumps into a particularly egotistical handyperson, dead set on spreading their own brand of truths. Your Sim is working on a difficult maneuver, so of course this rival feels the need to swoop in to give their 2 cents.
Best for job performance: Take Advice.
Take Advice
- 50%: It looks like your Sim learned the hard way that not everyone has the best intentions when giving advice... and this was particularly bad advice causing a massive disruption in the job. (job performance −10; moodlet: Not So Accurate)
- 50%: Your Sim is humble enough to know that there is still a lot to gain from listening to others. Fortunately this rival had some nuggets of wisdom to share. (job performance +15; moodlet: Trained in the Handy Arts)
Ignore Advice
- 50%: With a roll of the eyes and a sudden smirk, your Sim gives his/her rival the cold shoulder while pressing on with ease. Too bad your Sim was not quite up to the task and ends up popping a bolt, causing a stream of brown sludge to rush out and leak all over his/her pants. How humiliating. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance, Embarrassed at Work)
- 50%: It can be difficult to stand your ground, but your Sim feels assured in his/her skills and confidently goes with his/her gut, proving that your Sim is the superior Handyperson! (job performance +25; +§100; moodlet: Master Hander)
Danger Pay
Sometimes extra courage needs to be summoned in order to get the job done. This call from the Sulea Tiger Santuary is exactly one of those times. Your Sim is tasked to repair the tiger pen to ensure safety for all... but what about your Sim's safety?
Show Caution
- 50%: Caution is understandable, but your Sim taking hours to do a 10 minute job is a little excessive. The bright side? Your Sim did not end up in a tiger's tummy. (job performance −10; moodlet: Sore from Work)
- 50%: Your Sim isn't about to get eaten by a tiger on the job, that's for sure! A carefully constructed plan of action allows your Sim to finish the job in spectacular fashion... all in one piece! (job performance +15; +§100)
No Caution
- 50%: As your Sim begins to take out his/her tools to work on repairing the pen, a startling growl makes your Sim almost jump out of his/her skin! Your Sim leaps out of the pen in just enough time to avoid being this tiger's dinner! (job performance −10; moodlet: Close Call)
- 50%: Luck is on your Sim's side today! As your Sim worked his/her magic on the tiger pen, the majestic beast paid no attention as they slept through the whole event. The job was finished in record speed, leaving your Sim with ample time to check out the Sulea Tiger Sanctuary before leaving. (job performance +15)
Ultimate Upgrade
While cautious to handle such an expensive item, your Sim is certainly excited by the prospect! The client is looking to upgrade their valuable, high quality machine, and your Sim finds out that the difference in part prices is astronomical. Does the price for parts really align with their quality?
Best for job performance: Use Best Parts.
Use Best Parts
- 50%: Your Sim just learned first hand that even if one uses the best parts, skill is still the ultimate decider on how the final product will function. Maybe your Sim needs a skills refresher! (job performance −20)
- 50%: When dealing with a machine of this worth, your Sim knows that you can't cheap out on parts. Your Sim completes this upgrade with skill, finesse, and a job well done. (job performance +25; +§100)
Use Cheapest Parts
- 50%: There is nothing more embarrassing than working on upgrading an expensive machine and then having it malfunction right before your client's eyes. Your Sim learned a lesson today: Don't cheap out on your clients. (job performance −30; moodlet: Work Annoyance, Embarrassed at Work)
- 50%: Cheap sometimes can work out, especially if you are as creative as your Sim! It's win-win! (job performance +15; skill: Handiness)
