How to use inZOI build mode

Open Build Mode, put up the walls, fill the rooms, and save. Press I, or click the Build Mode icon in the lower right of the screen. Game8 gives both ways.

This guide uses Game8, PCGamesN, the inZOI ModKit docs, and the 2026 patch notes. We opened all of them on October 23, 2026. Some guides are from 2025, so we say when a later update changed a step.

Step by step: a house from scratch

1. Enter Build Mode on your lot.
2. Put up walls to plan the size and shape of each room.
3. Fill the rooms with furniture from the Furniture tab.
4. Save the house when you like it. Then go back to the game.
5. If you want, upload the house to Canvas for other players.

Game8 warns that walls cost Meow, the money in inZOI. Random walls on a big house use up a lot of money. Furniture is usually the most expensive part.

Use blueprints and presets to save money

Put down blueprints first. Game8 says that a blueprint costs only 1 Meow. It shows the room layout before you pay for walls. Room Presets also give you ready-made rooms. Put them down and build the walls around them.

What are the build mode tabs?

• Building Presets: ready-made properties, rooms, and furniture sets.
• Building: walls, doors, windows, and other parts of the structure.
• Furniture: items sorted by room, such as bedroom and kitchen.
• Craft: custom furniture and the 3D Printer.

Game8 lists these tabs in its 2025 guide. The June 2026 update added a filter. Now you can sort furniture by activity type as well as by room type.

Click and drag to move an object. Press Z or C, or right-click, to rotate it. Each press turns the object 45 degrees. Game8 and PCGamesN agree on these keys.

How do you turn off the grid (free placement)?

Hold Alt while you move an object. The object stops snapping to the grid. You can then push furniture close to walls and to other objects. PCGamesN gives a second way. Click the grid icon at the top of the build bar to keep free placement on.

Hold Alt while you rotate, too. Then the object turns one degree at a time, not 45. Game8 also says to use Alt to join roofs and to put plants close together.

Other build mode keys

The Magic Game World hotkey list gives the Shift, Delete, Esc, floor, and wall keys. It is from February 2025. If a key does not work, look at the controls menu in the game.

How do you select many objects at once?

Hold Shift and drag over the objects. The April 29, 2026 update added this multi-select. Hold Alt and drag to deselect. Hold Shift and left-click to add one object. Then move, duplicate, or sell the group.

Can you resize or raise objects?

Only with a cheat or a tool for mods. PCGamesN said in 2025 that you cannot resize objects. The October 15, 2026 update added the EnableFreeEditMode cheat. It turns on free positioning and free scaling of objects. The next section tells you how to use it.

Some items now have their own size controls. The March 26, 2026 update added rugs with sizes that you can adjust.

Turn on Enable Cheats in Psycat’s Advice. Then press Ctrl + Shift + C and type a command. Read our inZOI cheats guide for the full steps.

PCGamesN lists editAllSite and showStudioCategory. The other three come from the patch notes. Type false in place of true to turn a cheat off.

What does building.set_option do?

The official ModKit docs list a building.set_option command. It works only in Build Mode. It switches options such as free placement, grid snap, object snap, uniform scaling, and smart guides. The docs show it for scripts, not for the normal cheat console. Read the inZOI mods guide if you want to try scripts.

Open Build Mode, select the Craft tab, then select 3D Printer. Upload a photo of an object. The game uses AI to make a 3D object from the 2D image.

The Steam page says that inZOI uses on-device generative AI. So your own computer does the work. Game8 warns that other programs that use the GPU can make the game crash. Close them first.

The steps from Game8

1. In Build Mode, click the Craft icon on the left. Select 3D Printer.
2. Click the plus (+) and choose your image. Wait for the object.
3. Click Next. Rotate the object so that it stands upright.
4. Give the object a name and a description. Click OK.
5. Find it in the 3D-Printed Furniture category. Place it for 100 Meow.

Xbox Play says that the 3D Printer object itself costs 629 Meow. It also gives the 100 Meow price for each new item.

How do you get a good result?

• Use a high-quality image. Game8 says at least 1000 x 1000 pixels.
• Use a plain background with no strong shadows and no other objects.
• Take the photo from the front.
• Do not use objects with thin parts, such as light strings.

Can Zois use 3D-printed furniture?

The guides disagree. Xbox Play says that printed items are only for decoration. Game8 says that the developers confirmed in a Discord AMA that you can assign them as furniture. Then Zois can interact with them. Test it in your own game.

Is AI Build the same as the 3D Printer?

No. AI Build made home layouts for you. The September 3, 2026 update (v0.10.0) removed it. The patch notes say only “AI build has been removed.” The 3D Printer stays. The same update fixed a bug that blocked interaction with the 3D Printer object.

Click Upload to Canvas at the top right of Build Mode. Add photos, a title, and a description. Then click Upload to Canvas at the bottom right. You need a KRAFTON account.

1. Select Upload to Canvas at the top right of Build Mode.
2. Take a picture in Photo Mode, or choose a saved photo.
3. Write a title and a description. Add up to 15 tags if you want.
4. Click Upload to Canvas at the bottom right.

How do you share one piece of furniture?

Place the item, click it, and select Save Furniture Preset. Rotate it to set the thumbnail. Enter a name and a description. Then click Upload to Canvas. This also works for 3D-printed furniture.

Why does a downloaded house not fit my lot?

Lot sizes were not the same before. Sims Community says that parts of custom builds were cut off on lots of a slightly different size. The March 26, 2026 update put lots into seven standard sizes. It also added a Size filter to the Canvas search.

The patch notes warn that some lots became smaller. Some downloaded presets may not load correctly. To update a lot, go to Options, Gameplay, then Refresh Property Manually.

Buildings have a floor limit, and homes now have basements. Terrain tools are still simple. Here is what we found.

How many floors can you build?

Game8 says that buildings can have up to 30 floors. It says that the developers saw lag with very tall buildings. The September 3, 2026 patch notes say that public properties can have up to 29 floors, with some exceptions. The two numbers do not agree. The newer patch note is more likely to match the game today.

Are there basements in inZOI?

Yes, since September 3, 2026. Private homes can have up to three basement floors. The October 15 update lets you edit walls on basement floors.

What do players still ask for?

An April 2026 thread on the inZOI forum asks for terraforming. Players want to raise, lower, and smooth the ground. They also ask for easy shelf clutter and more control over roofs. We found no developer answer in that thread.

Tips from Game8 to avoid bugs

• Build fences last. They can disappear while you build other parts.
• Keep platforms one stage high if Zois must stand on them.
• Click the slanted arrows on stairs to make them bend at a corner.

The 2026 updates added multi-select, basements, free scaling with a cheat, and many new items. They also removed AI Build. See the full inZOI patch notes for every change.

It does not fit if you want to build houses. LifeSim has no build mode, no furniture, and no house sharing. For walls, roofs, and 3D-printed decor, play inZOI.

How do you open build mode in inZOI?

How do you place objects off the grid in inZOI?

Hold Alt while you move the object, or click the grid icon at the top of the bar.

Can you make objects bigger in inZOI?

Use the EnableFreeEditMode True cheat from the October 15, 2026 update. It allows free scaling. Without it, most objects keep one size.

Does the 3D Printer need the internet?

The Steam page says that the AI runs on your device. Canvas uploads need a KRAFTON account. Read if inZOI works offline for more.

Is inZOI build mode free?

Build Mode comes with the game. The Steam page lists inZOI at $39.99 in Early Access. Items in the game cost Meow, not real money.
