Can you play inZOI offline?

What players report about inZOI with no internet, and what we could not verify.

Probably not at the start. The player reports that we found say that inZOI needs an internet connection to start. One player says that the game keeps running after you go offline. No developer reply confirms or denies this.

That is the honest answer, and it has a gap. We found no statement from the developers on the pages that we opened. All the evidence is from players, and it is from 2025.

We opened the sources for this post on October 10, 2026. We could not open the official support page of inZOI. The server returned an error (403). So this post does not quote the official page. Read it yourself before you decide. You read this on the LifeSim blog, and we say at the end where LifeSim does not fit.

Three Steam threads ask the question. The dates and the claims differ, so we list them by date.

December 2024 to January 2025: before the launch

A player asks why the minimum requirements list an internet connection for a game with one player. One reply says that the online part may serve a gallery to share and download creations, and that you can “go offline after starting the game… probably.” Another reply says that online features are “only for sharing your creations with other people, or downloading theirs.” Both replies are guesses.

Other players call the requirement “a deal breaker” or say that they would ask for a refund. One player says that they will test offline play on a Steam Deck. The thread has no developer reply.

March 28, 2025: the day of the launch

A player says that offline play is not available yet and that an offline mode is “planned for later.” That claim comes from a player. The thread has no developer reply, so we do not treat it as confirmed. Another player says that the online requirement comes from core functions, such as some AI functions and Canvas.

May 2025: players test the game

One player first says that you can play offline and lose only Canvas. Hours later the same player tests it and reports an error:

  • The game shows a problem with the Steam authenticator.
  • The player concludes: “So yes you have to be online to play.”

A second player reports a workaround. You start the game online while Steam runs. You get a Steam authentication error if you do not. After the game starts, you can go offline. This is one report, from a play session inside the refund window of two hours.

Steam has an offline mode. The player who got the authenticator error says that the game did not start without the internet. So Steam offline mode alone did not solve the problem for that player.

What we know

  • One player tested a start without the internet and got an authentication error.
  • One player says that a start with the internet works, and that the game continues after the connection drops.
  • No player in these threads reports a full start without any connection.

What we do not know

We do not know if the rule changed after May 2025. The game is in Early Access, and the team changes it often. A player in the May 2025 thread says that the changes are made almost every day. Today the answer may be different.

The threads give three reasons. None of them comes from the developers.

  1. Canvas. A player says that Canvas uses your Steam login. Canvas is the place where players share their creations.
  2. AI functions. A player says that some AI functions need a connection.
  3. Patches. A player says that the patches make the game easier to update.

The Steam page for inZOI lists the game as Early Access, at $39.99 on the day that we opened it. Its description says that the developers will improve the game throughout Early Access for at least a year. The page does not say which features need the connection.

Why this matters to some players

A player in the first thread says that single player games should not need a constant connection, because of game preservation. Another worries that the game stops working if the servers close. These are opinions. We list them because they explain why the question is common.

The Steam page that we opened lists system requirements for Windows and for macOS. The text that we read does not state a rule on the internet connection. A player in the first thread says that the minimum requirements list one. We did not find that line in the text that we read, so we do not state it as fact.

What to look for on the page

  • The list of requirements. Check for a line on the connection.
  • The Early Access notice. It says that the game changes during Early Access.
  • The latest reviews. Players who need offline play often write about it.

The date of the evidence matters. The posts that we found are from 2024 and 2025. The Steam page shows that the game changes over time. A rule from 2025 may not hold in October 2026. Treat every player report here as old until you check it.

The same rule applies. If the game needs a connection to start, a handheld on a train has the same problem as a desktop. Start the game while the device is online, if you wish to try the workaround.

Read inZOI on Steam Deck for the handheld details. Read inZOI system requirements for the hardware.

How to check before you buy

  1. Buy the game on a day when you have time to test it.
  2. Start the game while you are online. Load a save.
  3. Close the game and turn off the connection of the device.
  4. Start the game again.
  5. If the game does not start, ask for a refund inside the refund window.

The refund rules are on the Steam help pages. Read them first. We did not check the current rules for this post, so we do not state the limits as fact.

Some life sims run with no connection. Some need one. The answer changes with each game.

LifeSim does not fit the offline need. It runs in a browser tab, and this post does not claim an offline mode for it. If you need a life sim for a flight, install a game and test it offline first.

For a view of the whole game, read inZOI vs The Sims 4.

Does inZOI have an offline mode?

A player says that the developers plan one. No developer reply in the threads confirms it. We found no proof that it shipped.

Can you play inZOI without Steam?

The player who tested offline play got an error from the Steam authenticator. We found no report of a start without Steam.

Does inZOI save your game online?

We did not find a statement on this. We do not know where each save lives.

Does inZOI work on the plane?

Only if the workaround works for you. Test it at home first, as the steps above show.

What did we not verify?

We did not run inZOI. We did not open the official support page, because it returned an error. We did not check the refund rules of Steam. All the claims on offline play come from player posts in 2025.
