Paralives build mode: every tool, and what is still missing

Paralives build mode has curved walls, split levels and free resizing. See each tool, the gaps in Early Access, and what is planned.

Yes. Paralives has a full build mode. You can use it in the town of Melino, on an empty lot, or in an empty flat world made for building. The game is in Early Access on Steam, so some tools are still missing.

The official site says the tools make “grid-less constructions, curved walls, resizable objects.” The Steam page adds “split-level floors.” This guide lists what the tools do, what is missing, and what the developers plan to add.

Every fact below comes from the official pages or from guides that we opened on October 18, 2026. Two of the guides were written at the launch. The game gets updates, so check the Steam page for the newest list.

The development page of Paralives has a list of build features that are available now. It also has a list of planned features.

The page does not give a date for each planned feature. Treat each one as a plan, not a promise.

Paralives has three kinds of wall: standard, half-wall, and invisible. The half-wall has an adjustable height. You can make each kind straight or curved. You can also change the thickness of a wall.

You can turn the grid off. Then you can place a wall at any angle, and a room can have a triangle shape. If you want a little help, hold Shift for half-grid placement. The Sims Tree also says that you can move a wall after you build it.

A platform sets the floor height of a room. With platforms you can build a sunken living room, a raised area, or a foundation. Sims Community says you can paint one wall or the whole room on a floor.

How many floors can you build? A July 2025 developer chat reportedly set no limit. The Sims Tree warns that many floors may slow the game. We could not find a newer number.

Almost every build tool has a full color wheel. You do not pick from a fixed palette. The guide of Sims Community lists these surfaces:

  • Walls: rock, brick, plain, paneling, tile, and wallpaper.
  • Floors: wood, tile, masonry, rock, linoleum, carpet, and a miscellaneous group.
  • Ceilings: industrial, wooden, and simple.
  • Roofs: seven textures.

Floors apply to a whole room or a whole platform level. You cannot paint a floor tile by tile. Walls have two options: paint one wall, or paint the room.

There is also a group of architectural details. It has four parts: molding, columns, details, and miscellaneous. Columns change in height and width. The details include graffiti, stains, cracks, and boarded-up sections.

Doors

Doors have five groups: exterior, interior, patio, closet, and arches. You pick the exterior side and flip the swing direction. You can drag an arch to change its width.

Windows

Windows have three shape groups: angular, arched, and decorative. Curtains and blinds have their own section. Many windows can change size.

Stairs

There are eight stair styles, and you can place them at a diagonal. You drag arrows to change the width and the height. You can put railings on both sides, on one side, or on none. A tool adds a fence around the floor opening upstairs.

Roofs and chimneys

Sims Community counts 18 roof styles. You can change the height, the width, and the color. The same guide calls the roof system “unfinished,” so a roof may not match the floor plan exactly. Chimneys and fireplaces are in the game, and many have an adjustable height.

Fences

You can change the height of a fence. You cannot place a fence on a curve. There are no working gates yet.

Yes. The Steam page says that you can “resize, recolor, stack and place items freely.” The Sims Tree gives more detail on this part. Most objects scale in width, in height, or both. The scale has no fixed limit. A very stretched object can stop working as it should.

The Sims Tree also lists these tools. Its facts come from a preview and a developer chat, so test them in your own game.

  • A bed has parts that you color one by one: the blanket, the sheets, the throw, and the frame.
  • An advanced edit mode raises, lowers, rotates, and flips objects.
  • You can edit the text on some objects, such as a rug. You can hang your own image in a frame.
  • You set a kitchen cabinet by the number of drawers, the shape of the doors, and the handles.
  • You build a modular sofa from sections, and you can adjust the armrests.

Sims Community lists four terrain tools for the ground: Elevate, Lower, Smooth, and Flatten. You change the size and the strength of each tool.

Plants have seven groups: trees, shrubs, flowers, weeds, vines, rocks, and planters. Most plants change size and color. A “Creation Style” setting gives a realistic look or a fantasy look. The Sims Tree says that grass and flowers do not pass through the walls of your house.

A basement tool is planned for later. The Sims Tree says that you can already fake a half-underground house if you sculpt the land. Lake and pond tools are also planned.

The guides and the development page agree on these gaps in Early Access:

  • No windows or doors on curved walls.
  • The roof system is not finished.
  • No pools yet.
  • No basements yet.
  • No working fence gates.
  • You cannot place a fence on a curve.

Some world tools are also not in the game. The Sims Tree says that you cannot yet expand the town borders. It says the developers “honestly admit that they have no idea when these features will become available.”

The Sims Tree says that future build mode improvements will come as free updates, with no paid building kits. For the full price story, read Is Paralives free? and Does Paralives have DLC?.

The Steam page lists the base game at $39.99. It also says that the price will rise as the game gets more content. Check the store page for the price today.

It does not fit if you want to design a house room by room. LifeSim is not a house builder. Paralives is the better choice for that job.

LifeSim has a build mode of its own. You place buildings that you make from a picture, and people that you make from a picture, on a map of a real city. The goal is different. You build a place to live in, and the population of the city lives around it. Read how LifeSim plays for the rest.

Is there a grid in Paralives?

There is an optional grid for walls. You can turn it off for free placement.

Can you build on a curve in Paralives?

You can build curved walls. You cannot put windows, doors, or fences on a curve yet.

Can you share houses in Paralives?

The Sims Tree says that you can share buildings through the Steam Workshop. A CurseForge post from June 2026 points to the CurseForge mods page for mods. We did not find one official list that settles both. See Paralives mods.

Does Paralives run on Mac?

The home page says that Early Access is on Steam for PC and Mac. See Paralives on Mac for the requirements.
