inZOI on Steam Deck

Valve rates inZOI Unsupported on Steam Deck. See the Steam report, the frame rates that reviewers found, and the steps to try it.

Yes, but Valve does not support it. inZOI starts and plays on a Steam Deck. Valve gives it the rating “Unsupported”. The reason that Valve lists is graphics performance.

This post shows what the Steam report says, what players and reviewers found, and what to expect. We opened each source on October 6, 2026.

You read this on the LifeSim blog. We make a browser life sim. We did not check LifeSim on a Steam Deck, so we make no claim about it.

Steam shows a compatibility report for each game. We read the report for inZOI from the Steam store on October 6, 2026. It has two parts.

The Steam Deck rating: Unsupported

The Steam Deck part has one result: “Unsupported”. The result line that Valve attaches to it is about graphics performance. Valve does not say more than that. The report links to no Valve blog post.

The SteamOS notes

The SteamOS part lists five items for inZOI:

  • The game starts and works.
  • The default controller setup does not fully work.
  • Text input does not open the on-screen keyboard by itself.
  • The first-time setup needs an internet connection.
  • Single-player play needs an internet connection.

The last two items matter if you travel. The Steam page lists a broadband connection in the requirements. A Steam Deck with no network cannot run inZOI.

The Steam page also lists the controller support as “Partial”. This agrees with the report: a controller works for part of the game, not for all of it.

The Steam page sets a high floor. The minimum graphics card is an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Each has 6 GB of video memory. The minimum memory is 12 GB of RAM. The game needs 40 GB of free space.

The recommended list is higher. It names an RTX 3070 or a Radeon RX 6800 XT, 16 GB of RAM, and 60 GB of free space. The Steam page also lists DirectX 12.

A Steam Deck uses a small chip with shared memory. We did not open a Valve page for the Steam Deck specification. So we give no number for it. The point is clear without one. The game asks for a desktop graphics card. The Steam Deck has none.

For the full list on Windows and Mac, read inZOI system requirements.

It runs, with large cuts to quality. The best check that we opened is from Steam Deck HQ. The check dates from March 27, 2025, the day that the game went on sale in Early Access. The game has had many updates since then, so read it as a first look.

What Steam Deck HQ measured

  • At the main menu, the game ran at 10 frames each second with no scaling.
  • With dynamic resolution on, the game reached 30 frames each second.
  • When Steam Deck HQ tried for 60 frames each second, the best result was 33.
  • In a town, the rate was not stable at 30. Loading new objects caused drops.

What went wrong in that check

The default Proton version gave a black screen. Proton is the layer that lets a Windows game run on the Steam Deck. The reviewer used a different version, Proton GE 9-26, and the game then started.

The game crashed from too much memory use when the reviewer picked a house. A manual save also crashed the device. Shadows disappeared, the image was blurry, and the text was small.

The reviewer ended with this advice: skip inZOI if you plan to play only on a Steam Deck. We could not repeat the check on our own hardware.

PCGamesN reported on March 28, 2025 that the game “runs fine” on a Steam Deck. It cites the Discord FAQ of the game. The same page says that players may need to change the graphics settings.

PCGamesN also says that controller support was not available at the Early Access launch. The report from Steam still says that the controller setup is not fully functional. This suggests that controller support is still partial.

A studio can say that a game runs while Valve still rates it as unsupported. The two statements use different standards. The studio says that the game starts and plays. Valve checks that the game runs well with the default settings and with a controller.

The Steam page lists Steam Cloud for inZOI. Steam Cloud keeps your save files online. You can then move between a computer and a Steam Deck with the same save.

We did not check this on a Steam Deck. The Steam report says that single-player play needs an internet connection, so the cloud sync fits that design. The Steam page also lists Family Sharing, which lets people in one Steam family use one library.

Large saves take longer to sync on a slow connection. If you play a lot, check that the sync finished before you close the game. This is general advice, and it does not come from the studio.

ProtonDB collects reports from players who run Windows games on Linux and the Steam Deck. We read the summary for inZOI on October 6, 2026. It lists 135 reports.

The overall tier is Gold. The best tier that a player reported is Platinum. ProtonDB rates its confidence as strong, with a score of 0.68.

Gold means that the game runs well after some changes. Platinum means that it runs well with no changes. These tiers come from player votes. They do not come from Valve, and they do not measure the frame rate.

Read the tier together with the Steam report. Players call it Gold, and Valve calls it Unsupported. Both can be true. Players accept a lower frame rate than Valve does.

No. The Steam report that we read on October 6, 2026 says “Unsupported”. Valve gives the Verified badge only after its own check.

One page disagrees. The inZOI Tips page says that inZOI is “officially Steam Deck Verified” as of an update on September 4, 2026. We do not trust this claim, because it conflicts with the report on the Steam store. The page also gives no link to a Valve source. We list the page in the sources so that you can see the conflict.

Use one rule when pages disagree. Trust the Steam store page of the game first. It shows the current rating from Valve.

The advice below comes from the sources above. We did not run these steps on a Steam Deck.

  1. Install the game from Steam. Check that the Steam Deck has a network connection.
  2. If you see a black screen, change the Proton version in the game properties. Steam Deck HQ used Proton GE 9-26.
  3. Turn on dynamic resolution. Steam Deck HQ needed it to reach 30 frames each second.
  4. Choose the lowest graphics settings. Accept a lower picture quality.
  5. Save often, and avoid the manual save if the device crashes. Steam Deck HQ reported crashes from memory use.
  6. Use the touch screen or the trackpad for text, because the on-screen keyboard does not open by itself.

inZOI Tips lists a power limit of 12 to 15 watts and a battery life of 1.5 to 2.5 hours. We could not confirm these numbers from a second source, so treat them as one player’s advice.

Two other life sims are relevant. The Sims 4 is rated Playable by Valve. Read The Sims 4 on Steam Deck. Paralives is rated Unsupported, like inZOI. Read Paralives on Steam Deck.

If you want a life sim with no download and no graphics card, a browser game is the other option. Read life sims you can play in your browser. LifeSim is one of them. It is free and it has no in-app purchases. It is a different game from inZOI. It has no house building and no character creator with 250 options.

For a full comparison of the big games, read inZOI vs The Sims 4 and games like inZOI.

A rating changes after an update. Use these checks to find the current one.

  1. Open the Steam page of the game. It shows the Steam Deck compatibility result.
  2. Read the list under the result. Each line names one problem that Valve found.
  3. Open ProtonDB. Sort the reports by date, and read the newest ones first.
  4. Look for the settings in each report. Use the settings that the newest reports use.
  5. Check the date of every guide. A guide from 2025 describes an older version of the game.

The rating can also change after Valve adds support. If inZOI gets the Verified badge, the report on the Steam page will say so first.

Can the Steam Deck run inZOI at 60 frames each second?

Not in the check that we found. Steam Deck HQ reached 33 frames each second at best, on March 27, 2025.

Does inZOI work offline on a Steam Deck?

No. The Steam report says that the first-time setup and single-player play both need an internet connection.

Does inZOI have full controller support?

No. The Steam page says “Partial Controller Support”.

Is there a Mac or Linux version that I can use instead?

The Steam page lists a Mac version for Apple chips. It lists no Linux version. A Steam Deck runs Linux, so it uses Proton.

Is inZOI free?

The base game is not free. Read is inZOI free for the details.
