inZOI Canvastown: what it is and when it comes

What the studio showed of Canvastown, the 50 player hub, what it cannot do, and why it has no release date.

Canvastown is a planned shared mode for inZOI. The director, Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim, showed it in September 2026. Players make one Zoi, enter a hub, and meet other players and NPCs. It is separate from the main life sim.

It has no release date. Kjun called it a side project, and he said that the team has a long way to go. Treat everything below as a plan.

This post gives what the studio showed, what the older roadmap said, and what the mode does not do. You read it on the LifeSim blog. We say at the end where LifeSim differs.

Sims Community describes the flow of the showcase in four steps.

  1. A button leads to MyZoi. You create or pick an avatar Zoi.
  2. You enter MyHome. You can customize it fully, or use a home that other players made and shared through Canvas.
  3. You go to the hub, named the AR Company. There you chat by text with other players and with NPC employees. When you talk to one Zoi, a one-on-one chat mode starts.
  4. A control tablet near the center globe lets you teleport to the homes of other players.

You can host a private session for friends only, or play alone. The AR Company holds up to 50 players in one channel. Game Luster reports that players interact with each other by mutual consent.

Game Luster calls the mode completely optional. It says that Canvastown is meant to appear as its own menu option. It is not a change to the main game.

Scenarios

Sims Community lists pre-made scenarios with set roles. Some have ending conditions. When one ends, you choose to end it or to continue. The examples are a farmer story, a beauty salon with secrets, a convenience store romance, a treasure hunt with a time limit, and a story with no ending condition.

Mini-games

The showcase included racing and parkour mini-games. Game Luster names a kart racer and an obstacle course in the style of Fall Guys. Players can build and share mini-games with the native tools and with mod support.

Script mods

Sims Community says that script mods let creators build new experiences and share them. The 2026 roadmap on the inZOI forum lists Lua script modding support for December. For the state of mods today, read inZOI mods.

You cannot build a city from scratch, and you cannot lay roads. Kjun addressed these rumors in a direct way. Sims Community and Game Luster agree on this point.

Decorating a city and editing terrain are possible future additions. They are not features today. Game Luster quotes Kjun: “There are so many lacking areas, and we have a very long way to go.”

Sims Community also reports that the explanation of Canvastown changed over time, and that it will likely change again with feedback. Kjun said that he would decide the future of Canvastown from the result of the showcase.

No date exists. Game Luster says that its article gives no release date. Sims Community says the concept is still in development.

The table shows the dates that the sources give, from oldest to newest.

We found no release of Canvastown #1 in the sources. The September reports describe Canvastown as a concept in development, with no release date. The roadmap itself says that its timelines and scope may change with the progress of the development.

The date of the next big inZOI update is also unclear. Game Luster says that the next major update is planned for October. The Sims Community diary page of October 2, 2026 says that the next major update is still planned for December 2026. We do not know which one is current. Check the official inZOI channels.

The January roadmap on the inZOI forum describes a different idea. It says that Canvastown is intended to become the first stage for the Fate Engine. The town is meant to be small, to run well on lower-spec hardware, and to make everything around your home playable space.

The roadmap lists these steps. In March, the Fate Engine and Canvastown work together. In May, the Fate Engine expands beyond Canvastown. The same roadmap has an online part. It lists account-linked characters in January, houses that other users can enter in March, and large-scale multiplayer on dedicated servers in October.

We do not know how much of this plan still holds. The September showcase talks about a hub and mini-games more than about a village of lots. Read the two descriptions as two stages of one idea, not as one fixed design.

Not yet. The Steam page lists inZOI as a single-player game today. Canvastown is the first sign of a shared mode that players can see, and it has no date.

Read does inZOI have multiplayer? for the history of the studio statements. For the price and the state of the game, read is inZOI free? The Steam page also says that inZOI is in Early Access and may be unstable.

Canvastown puts you in a hub with up to 50 other players. You chat, you play mini-games, and you visit homes. It is a social space for creators.

LifeSim is a different design. You live one life in a real city. The people there are NPCs, and you talk to them. They answer in their own words and remember what you said. There are no other human players in your world.

LifeSim has no house sharing, no mini-games, and no mod tools. Choose inZOI Canvastown, when it comes, for shared creation. Choose LifeSim for a life with conversation, and for a game that is free in the browser. For a wider list, read games like inZOI.

The Steam page says that the studio plans to share a public roadmap and to gather feedback through Discord and social media. The inZOI forum holds the roadmap posts. Sims Community keeps a developer diary page that lists the weekly updates by date.

Use the dates in this post as a guide to what changed, not as a promise. The studio changed its description of Canvastown more than one time, and Sims Community says it will likely change again.

Is Canvastown a new city in inZOI?

Not as a city for the main life sim. The showcase describes a separate shared mode with a hub. The older roadmap described a small village. The two descriptions differ.

How many players can join Canvastown?

The AR Company holds up to 50 players in one channel, according to Sims Community and Game Luster.

Can I build my own city in Canvastown?

No. Kjun said that building a city from scratch and laying roads are not available.

Is Canvastown free?

We found no price for Canvastown. The Steam page says that the Early Access game is $39.99 at the regular price.

Does Canvastown work on PS5?

We found no statement. For the console plan of the main game, read the inZOI PS5 release date.
