Is Paralives worth it?

The Early Access price, the Steam reviews, what Build Mode and Live Mode do today, and who should buy now or wait.

Yes, if you want to build houses and you accept an unfinished game. No, if you want a full life sim today. The Steam reviews are strong. The reviewers who criticize the game name bugs, thin features, and the price.

Paralives is in Early Access. It came out on Steam on May 25, 2026. The Steam page shows a price of $31.99 on the day that we opened it. That is a 20% launch discount from $39.99.

This post gives the facts that decide the question: what you get, what is missing, what players say, and who should wait. You read it on the LifeSim blog. We say at the end where LifeSim does not fit.

The Steam page lists these core features:

  • An open-world town.
  • A character creator.
  • Career and relationship systems.
  • Flexible house building without a grid, and group actions on many objects.
  • Steam Workshop support for mods.

The studio site lists more tools: curved walls, resizable objects, split-level floors, and custom stairs. It says that the game is in active development. The site does not say which of these tools are in the Early Access build. Check the Steam page for the current list.

Build Mode is the part that reviewers praise most. DTGRE calls it best in class. It says that the grid-free placement feels liberating, and that you can resize furniture to make a room your own.

Live Mode is the weak part. Live Mode is where your characters live their days. DTGRE says that NPCs can feel idle, that social interactions are slow, and that the emotional range is small. It lists early bugs.

The Steam page lists a long plan for the future. It names pets, cars, houseboats, and a town creation tool. It also names more furniture, clothing, traits, and skills. The roadmap items for Early Access include weather and seasons, animals, vehicles, pools, social events, NPC story progression, a family tree, gardening, and fishing.

Most of these are plans, not features. The studio estimates about two years in Early Access before version 1.0. You buy the game as it is today, plus a promise.

The studio FAQ also lists limits that will not change soon. There are no plans for a console version. There will be no phone or tablet version. Script mods are not planned at the moment.

The Steam page showed two review scores when we opened it.

The recent score is lower than the all-time score. The numbers do not say why. Open the Steam page and read the recent reviews yourself.

Sims Community, on July 17, 2026, cites sales data from GameDiscoverCo. It reports more than 1.1 million units sold. It reports a refund and return rate of 6.5%, against a median of 9.5% in an early 2025 survey of GameDiscoverCo. It lists the common complaints as bugs, bare or incomplete features, and the price.

The price is $39.99 in Early Access, according to the studio FAQ. The FAQ says that the price rises as the team adds content. A player who buys now pays less than a player who buys at version 1.0.

The studio also pledges to never release paid DLC. Steam says that future updates are free. Read does Paralives have DLC? for the full pledge.

Sims Community says that a frequent criticism is that the price is higher than players expect for an Early Access game. Both views are fair. The price is lower now than it will be later, and the game is unfinished.

Here is a way to decide. Divide the price by the hours that you expect to play. At $31.99, a builder who plays 40 hours pays less than one dollar for each hour. A player who plays two hours and stops pays much more. The sum is your own, so do it before you buy. For the date and the price history, read the Paralives release date post.

The Steam page lists these minimum values:

  • Windows: Windows 10, an Intel Core i5 or Ryzen 5, 12 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060 or RX 6600 XT. It needs 8 GB of storage.
  • Mac: an Apple M2 with 12 GB of RAM. The Mac version needs an Apple processor.

The studio FAQ says that Paralives is a single-player game and does not need an internet connection to play. For the full lists, read Paralives system requirements. For a handheld, read Paralives on Steam Deck.

Buy now if

  • You love to build houses, and you want grid-free tools.
  • You want to support a small studio and its free updates.
  • You accept bugs and a game that changes each month.

Wait if

  • You want NPCs that act in a rich, busy world. DTGRE says Live Mode is not there yet.
  • You want a console or phone version. The studio says it has no plan for either.
  • You want a finished game for the price. Version 1.0 is about two years away, by the studio estimate.

DTGRE sums it up in one line. It says that Paralives is not competing as a finished life simulator yet. It is a creative sandbox first.

To compare it with the game it challenges, read Paralives vs The Sims 4. For other choices, read games like Paralives.

LifeSim does not compete with Paralives on building. It has no house builder and no character creator with a catalog. You cannot place a sofa.

LifeSim is for the other half of a life sim: the people. You live one life in a real city, and you talk to the people there. It runs in a browser and is free to start. The Terms describe paid subscriptions and Lifebits, a virtual currency. Try it first if you are not sure that you like life sims. Then spend the money on a game that fits your style.

The Steam pages show these prices on the day that we opened them.

The two Early Access games cost the same. The Sims 4 costs nothing for the base game, but its packs cost money. See inZOI vs Paralives to choose between the two new games.

Sims Community adds one more signal. It says that wishlists peaked around the launch in May 2026 and have trended down since, but that the game still gets thousands of wishlists each day.

Is Paralives better than The Sims 4?

It is better at building, according to reviewers. It is less complete as a life sim. The Sims 4 has a free base game and a large list of packs. See the comparison.

The studio FAQ calls it a single-player game. See does Paralives have multiplayer?
