Paralives character creator: what the Paramaker can and cannot do

The Paralives character creator is the Paramaker. See its tabs, sliders, colors and personality picks, and what you cannot change later.

The character creator of Paralives is the Paramaker. Fans also call it PAM. You use it to make a Parafolk, which is a person of the game. You can make one Parafolk or a whole household.

The Steam page says you can “adjust the height of your Parafolks, tweak a wide array of facial and body features, design stylish outfits.” This guide goes through the tabs one by one. It also lists what you cannot change after you start to play.

We opened every source on October 18, 2026. The game is in Early Access, and updates change it. Check the Steam page for the newest list.

The Paralives Wiki says the Paramaker has three groups of tools: Body, Clothing, and Personality. A separate screen sets the identity of the Parafolk.

TabWhat you set
BodySliders for the body and the face, presets, and colors for skin, eyes, and hair
ClothingOutfits, layers, and accessories
PersonalityStats, Vibe, Talent, Social perk, and Lifestyles
IdentityName, life stage, gender, voice, and optional advanced settings

You click a body part, and the sliders for it open on the right side of the screen. You move a slider with the arrows. You can also type a number for an exact value. Presets give you a quick start.

Parafolk have one gender-neutral body frame. You can still change parts of it, such as the chest and the hips. The wiki describes this as a free choice, and the frame does not depend on the gender that you pick.

The CurseForge blog confirms the main point. It names “precise sliders for height, facial structure, and diverse body types.” It also says that mismatched features are allowed. One example is two different eye colors.

Yes. The CurseForge blog says: “You can use a full color wheel on practically everything in the Paramaker.” The wiki adds that you can type a hex code for an exact shade.

Eyes, hair, and skin each have several color regions. Skin has four: Base, Highlights, Shadows, and Blush. So you can set a main color and then add accents.

Clothing is gender-neutral. Any Parafolk can wear any item. The CurseForge blog describes “a dynamic layering system” for jackets, undershirts, and accessories.

The wiki gives two limits. First, you can only layer pieces that the game marks as compatible. This stops clipping. Second, babies and toddlers have their own clothes, and children cannot wear high heels.

You assign attribute points. You choose a Vibe. You pick a Social perk and a Talent, and you set the preferences of the Lifestyles. The beginner guide of Sims Community says that personality has “a much bigger impact on your day-to-day gameplay” than looks.

A Talent can help a Parafolk learn some skills faster. The guide tells you to match the Talent to the interests that you want the Parafolk to have later.

In Live Mode, personality changes through personality points. The wiki says it is not possible to change the labels of a Parafolk by hand in Live Mode.

  • Name: a first name and a last name. You can randomize them. A nickname, a middle name, and the name order are optional.
  • Life stage: one of eight. These are Baby, Toddler, Child, Preteen, Teenager, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder.
  • Gender: F, M, or NB. This setting is separate from the look of the body.
  • Voice: a preset from a list for the age of the Parafolk.
  • Advanced personality: pronouns, pregnancy options, breastfeeding options, and jealousy settings.

The wiki says the life stage is locked after you create the Parafolk. You cannot reopen the Paramaker to change it. The Parafolk still gets older with time.

This is the part where the sources do not fully agree, so read it with care. The Parafolk page of the wiki says that body sliders lock after creation. It also says that identity cannot change in Live Mode. It says some genetic features stay the same for the whole life.

The Paramaker page of the same wiki says that, in Live Mode, a Parafolk can change appearance but not personality or labels. You need a mirror, the Hospital, or the Pharmacy for this. You change makeup and outfits at a dresser. You change a hairstyle at the hair salon.

Both pages agree on one point. Full access to every tool is only for the moment you create a household. We could not confirm the exact edit rules in the game itself. Test a Parafolk before you spend hours on a save.

The CurseForge blog says that the launch version has a basic genetics system. It says the developers plan more advanced hereditary tools in future updates. Those tools are not in the game yet.

The wiki says that some genetic features stay the same for the whole life of a Parafolk. Read the news of each update on Steam to see what changed.

The beginner guide of Sims Community gives a short plan for a first save. You choose a Storyteller. It recommends Maxence for new players, Stella for a relaxed game, and Ricardo for a harder game. You can change the Storyteller later.

The guide says to start with a small home in Old Town in Melino, which is near shops and activities. It also tells you to practice decorating an existing home before you try a full build. You can turn on Steam Cloud to back up your saves and use them on more than one device.

Those tips are from July 17, 2026. Read the Paralives release date guide for the history of the Early Access launch.

At the start of a save, you can use a premade household in the town of Melino. You can also build your own Parafolk in the Paramaker. The July 2026 beginner guide says: “we recommend creating your own Parafolk for your first save.”

The same guide says that updates since launch added new customization options. It does not list them. It also says that updates added more autosave slots. So you can go back to an earlier point if you dislike a result.

It does not fit if you want sliders for every part of a face. LifeSim has no tool like the Paramaker. Choose Paralives for that job. For more choices, read Paralives vs The Sims 4.

LifeSim starts from the other side. You write who you are in a short text, and the game builds the people around you. You then talk to them in your own words. See AI character generator for the idea.
